How does this work.

Conceptualists

OK, I just went to check my issue and I was surprised to see that my country was "Capitalizt." But this seems inconsistent with the description.

The Kabal of Conceptualists is a huge, devout nation, notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 655 million enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, the Environment, and Social Welfare. The average income tax rate is 100%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Gambling.

people are moving into treehouses in record numbers, citizens are enjoying a recent large cut in taxes, refugees from other nations are flocking to Conceptualists's border, and employers may fire workers without giving any reason. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is well under control, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Conceptualists's national animal is the artist, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the canvas

I thought the bolded part was completely contrary to Capitalizm. ie Massive private sector, no taxes etc.

I have this exact description myself. I rationalize it by assuming that all businesses in Marineris Colonies are publicly owned and traded on a stock market. Thus, the free market is maintained as people buy, sell, trade and control businesses via the market, yet as all businesses are publicly owned, technically private ownership (meaning, non-traded businesses) doesn't exist. I suppose I'm still slightly uncomfortable with the idea of this arangement being required by law -- private enterprise is illegal -- but unfortunately thats what the game is programmed to say.

(EDIT: at any rate, this rationalization makes sense for a "capitalizt" state, if a "capitalizt" state is one that is uber-corporatized. Dunno what to say about the tax rates. I guess I wouldn't assume that tax rates must be low/non-existant in even a "capitalizt" state. Perhaps the high tax rate indicates a high level of business special interests recieving special favors from the state...)

I believe my other nation, Kwangtoppolous, has the description "a socially progressive nation notable for its complete absence of social welfare". I guess thats what happens when Excellent Civil Rights mix with a Capitalist Paradise.

The high tax rate represents the theft that capitalists do to the working class. Because they control everything, they can do whatever they want.
