Precisely. Avatars for the 120,000 users would take up unimaginable space as would signitures. Sigs wouldn't be as bad, but they're still too much.

His picture, at least isn't saved on the server, though having to load it through the server every time you open a page on which he's posted isn't ideal.

TAR, the server is basically at maximum capacity right now, a few lines of text per person would be a strain at best. On top of that, most people would probably use pictures hosted elsewhere in their signatures and those would slow the server down a lot as they were loaded with each opened page.
