Has anyone seen the new Zhang Yimou movie, Hero? The one that's due out in the US and other nations soon, and also stars Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung, and i think Zhang Ziyi?

Also, has anyone seen Musa (the warrior)? The one made by China, Japan, and Korea and with a whole bunch of actors, taking place in and around the Korean peninsula (or so i think)?

Or has anyone seen the movie Shiri, made by South Korea? its about a face off between intelligence agents of North and South Korea.

And Shaolin soccer was amazing, i recommend thta eveyrone go see it. It's released in the US already, and is more or less unaltered.

they seem pretty good.

I've got news for you. NO ONE in the US will go see a soccer movie. We have other sports that actually envolve excitement and scoring. I know soccer is big everywhere else, but it will never catch on here. The only people here that like it are moms who think their kids can't get hurt playing it.
Unfortunately, as far as the other movies, they'll probably only play in the major cities. I havn't heard of too many foreign movies playing around my area. The best we can hope for is a stupid Jackie Chan or Jet Li movie.

.

dont jump into something u dont know about. Watch the movie before you open that mouth of yours.

It's a TWIST on soccer. if you knew what Shaolin was, if you were smart enough to ask about the premise instead of barging inlike the moron that u are, u would know that Shaolin Soccer is the funniest f*cking movie.

Ever. Bar none. But since you dont know, get the hell out of my thread until u actually watch this stuff.

I can't remember if I've seen the warrior, but I've seen "hero" and I'm sorry to say I'm not the biggest fan of it. It seemed a bit too much like a lot of the other "good cop in bad situation" movies I've seen. (Mind you, we could be talking about different movies...Hero is a common enough title)

If were adding other good asian movies into the mix I heartily reccomend the Zatoichi (blind swordsman) films made in japan. I think one is coming out in the US this summer. It was a long running series started in the late 50's and spanned 26 movies and 100+ TV episodes. I've seen about 3/4ths of the films and while they are a bit formulaic, the formula is a really good one. It has humor, action, drama, and tragedy in equal parts.

Believe me, there aren't many good local movies to watch anymore, not even the Korean and Japanese ones. Chinese movies have some work to do before they catch up to anything "good". I don't understand Hindu, Arabic, or Malay. The best movies I reckon would be either pure Western or even better, China-West partnered movies like various Jackie Chan / Chau Yun Fat ones.

Maybe, maybe not... http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0299977/

It did get an Osacar nomination for best foreign film.

Some of my faves:
Chinese Ghost Story (Sinnui Yauman)
Tampopo
Eat, Drink, Man, Woman (Yin Shi Nan Nu)

Shaolin Soccer is funny, I saw it years ago when it first came out on DVD in Asia. It was all in Chinese though, the gist seemed funny.

The only Japanese movie I've seen is a horror movie. The US made their own version of it entitled "The Ring". Awesome.

I'm gonna go with "no". I do agree about Tanpopo though. Gold. Pure gold. With gigantic testicles.

I saw Musa, and thought it was pretty sweet. I laughed my ass off at Shaolin Soccer (it was released here about a year ago).

Hero is excellent. It came out in theatres here long ago, and I also have it on DVD. It uses splendidly artistic color schemes to display different emotions and different characters' sides of the same story. Also, the fighting choreography is incredible.

Also, the story is good. No hints, but it is not the typical revenge plot of so many Kung Fu/martial arts movies.

One of my friends showed me "The best of" (basically just the "soccer" scenes). Shaolin Soccer while we were waiting for .. something or other .. it was like a year or two ago (I think it was a subtitled Japanese version). It was pretty funny, but I can't say much about the plot (cut out in favor of the soccer scenes).
