Question for the Mormons....

Ok I ran across this verse the other day while reading and I instantly thought of all of you. I would just like to know your opinion on it since I know that you guys belief that God is just one of many "gods" before him, and that you, yourselves can become "gods" too.

Granted I may not have said that just right, but you know what I’m talking about….

So here is the verse…give me your opinions please

Isaiah 43:10 (NIV)

10 "You are my witnesses," declares the LORD ,
"and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
nor will there be one after me.

Isaiah 43:10 (KJV)
10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

Or is this simply one of the verses that your faith has taken an added to, and thus have included a “deeper” understanding of it, in one of your many other writings.

Im sure they have a carefully sculpted exscuse for that one.
In fact..they may even go so far as to say..."Well..thats OLD testament,..and we dont really follow that one."

The answer is somewhat simple.

There are two really, that go hand in hand.

First, God is speaking to us, on this world. What do we care about Gods before he existed? he's the only one we need to be concerned about, because no other God can save us.

The second point is that he is not necessarily speaking chronologically, but by priority... just like the first commandment, reworded... no Gods are above him, (before him), and no Gods are after him (graven images of god and whatever)

The thing is, we, unlike many christians today, actually DO take the bible quite seriously :) We just have different interpretations than mainstream, thanks to the Book of Mormon, and modern-day revelation.

I actually just finished a course on the last part of the old testament... so really it is a common misconception that we don't care about the bible... it's completely untrue!

I must have to disagree with you on your point about no gods above or before. Those words mean to totally different things.

You also didn't really answer the question at hand, other than explaining the verse itself. My question is..how does this fit into your faith, since you faith believe that you can become gods, and that God himself is from another god, who was from another god...etc.

All we have is little hints really. All we know is that "as Man is, God once was; and as God is, man can someday become."

Other than that, it's simply ouitside human comprehension... we all think in temporal timeframes, and it is impossible for us to even grasp the concept of eternity, let alone eternities before.

If anything, I personally suspect that it might tie in with the whole recycling-universe big bang theory, where every couple trillion years, the universe collapses and is reborn... but I can only speculate and wonder.

The point is, it doesn't matter. It isn't vital to our salvation, so it wasn't included in scripture.

I somewhat agree with you. However I find it odd, that you say it doesn't matter yet this is a foundational building block(for lack of better words) of your faith. Your faith teaches this, and yet still you say it really isn't important. How so?

Hi. Are you Mormon? I'm really impressed by some of the stuff you do, though I am still opposed to the religion, I have to say. It's really cool when these Westerners come into here and speak perfect Cantonese! What made you to the faith?

Your faith teaches this, and yet still you say it really isn't important. How so?Exaltation is a goal, and in a way that goal is the foundation... but all the stuff about getting your own planet and whatever is hyped up, and frankly, we just don't know too much about it. All that stuff is only briefly talked about the "The Pearl of Great Price," and a lot of it is still unrevealed.

There are some things more that you learn about in the temple, but that's a little more personal... and frankly, i haven't gone yet, so I wouldn't know. :)

Dragons bay: I was born into the church, but I remain active of my own choice, and I keep my faith through prayer, and communication with God.
