why is CNN wasting time on this? This has to be the biggest example of pointless whining I have ever seen.

One example of ludicrous whining
""American television gets a lot of the blame, but in some parts of the world the BBC dominates and people see how the British eat, not how the Americans eat," said Popkin, a nutrition professor at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill"

The BBC dominates? Really? Where?

As a news service the BBC World Service does broadcast worldwide but it's usually along side tons of other channels mostly broadcasting American content.

However, having said that, no one sensible is blaming the U.S. and the people who do are whiners themselves.

Surely if you get fat its generaly beczuse you eat either too much or the wrong stuff (I'm excluding those with medical conditions before anyone says anything)
That sounds obvious to me.
So.
The answer is to take personal responsibility for our food intake rather than blame companies, countries, advertising etc.
These people cannot FORCE you to eat crap.
Its an educational/self control issue.

Global Obesity? Didn't realize there was "Global Obesity" Although I'm sure all those countries in Africa, Central America etc, will be very happy to hear it's not the United States fault that they are obese..

I didn't realize anyone was 'blaming' the US for global obesity. Mostly people are blaming Americans for their *own* obesity. The US has more obese people than any other country that I know of, and for the most part it's their own bloody fault that they are that way. Other countries in the world have fatties too, but that's the individual's own fault and no one else's.

What really gets the world annoyed is that Americans, just like in that CNN article, try to blame fast-food companies and the like because they're overweight. Everyone is responsible for their own bodies and what they do with them.
