Don't you think Coldplay is an awesome band?

No.

Its not as if the answer to our life's problem is more shiity anodyne fake rock.

Coldplay is not shitty fake rock. And music can help problems. I know everytime I have a problem I go and wale out on piano and it makes me feel better.

Coldplay? Ehh. I can take them or leave them, nothing special.

I never said music doesn't help problems.

Coldplay is oversentimental, sacarinny, anodyne, "blow my head off with a shotgun" bollocks, completely contrived and they only sell records because idiots buy into the lie that they have descent, meaningful lyrics that give them comfort that they are not the only ones with problems. They make Leonard Coen sound upbeat.

Coldplay was the first concert I ever saw, and it was awesome. I will never forget it. There is definitely something unique about them. The huge stardom they have reached takes something out of it, though... Still, I'm happy for them.

Haha, I guess they were pretty big when I saw them, but still... not Grammy-recognized, MTV-playing types.

Coldplay doesn't play depressing music. I don't think so at least.

Yes :) I feel exactly that way about music.

Coldplay are pretty good (used to love them, not so much anymore. 1st album much better than the second). However Travis is much better if you want indie. Feeder are also excellent.

Mneh, I like them, but they don't really touch me in the way, I don't know, Billy Bragg does.

However, your English is questionable. Isn't 'Coldplay' actually a name for a group of people, therefore needs to be in the plural- "Coldplay Rock" "Don't you think Coldplay ARE a great band". Though I could be wrong on this.

Well I'm an English minor in college so I would think I had it right although I don't pay too much attention to that on the forums.

If you were speaking of Colplay as a group then the "are" conjugation would be correct. But I'm speaking of Coldplay as a whole, not as a group of individuals, so therefore "is" can be the correct conjugation.

coldplay tries to be radiohead. I don't even like radiohead all that much, so, no, Coldplay is shite. You 15 year olds need better taste in music.

Well I'm 26, so that comment wouldn't apply to my taste of music.

And I think Radiohead and Coldplay are much different. It is just to the non-musical type that they seem the same. If you really get down to style and common keys, they aren't alike. And Radiohead uses a lot more effects and odd chords.

Have you ever actually listened to music? Ever? I mean, I'm not a massive Coldplay fan (although I do like Radiohead) but the difference between Coldplay (essentially a pop band, indie and soft rock with classic singer/songwriter elements) and Radiohead (prog-rock, progessive, electronic and experimental) is massive. Coldplay could never release anything like Amnesiac or Kid A, and probably couldn't get away with large chunks of OK Computer, without losing huge numbers of fans and critical acclaim.

Just.... think, sometime.

Mneh. Because they produce fundamentally different types of music.

I love the Bends and OK Computer, never got into much after that. Coldplay are odd- I recognise them as being good musicians, but I just don't particularly like it, I think some of it lacks energy. Though Rush Of Blood had some great moments.

Well I'm a pianist so I like the presence of piano in both the bands. And "Trouble" is a great song. Catchy melody and an odd chord scheme that still works.

I loved those both too, especially the Bends. But Amnesiac is now my favorite album. The first time I heard it was a live performance I watched on tv, and it actually got to me.

CP how'd you get such cool taste in music. Most girls don't listen to that kinda cool stuff that I like. Your a pretty cool girl I have to say.

Actually I like the first two (what I've heard of them at least) - although the third i don't know - and also like indie/soft rock.

While Coldplay and Radiohead are musically quite different, the end result is that they often get compared because of certain inherent similarities. Namely (and no, I'm not a fan, so dedicated follows might want to avert their tender eyes) because they're both pretentious, overly ansgst-ridden, suffering-under-the-burden-of-their-genius whiners.

Oh, and REM too. Mr Stipe sought to expand the boundaries of pretentiousness and succeeded remarkably well.

Coldplay is an AMAZING band. Even if you don't think so from a first glance, if you buy the CD and listen to them, they are amazing. So amazing me and my band learned 6 of their songs already, and plan to learn almost all the others. (Greenday and Offspring are also some of my favorite bands, but I just don't see how you can't admire Coldplay, for their creativity and talent)

Well, I'm still a ska person. Catch 22, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Aquabats (I'm goin to a show of the Aquabats next month) local ska (3 Feet Short, Black Tie Affair) just to name a few...And punk rock wouldn't EXIST without ska. And emo does suck.
But my favorite band is a local band, the Syzlaks, then comes One Size Fits All...yeah I'm not much of a big name person.

Yes. Awsome. I love Catch 22 and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

You can tell I like ska cause I said I like suicide machines. (I only like Destruction by Definition, which was their only primarily ska-punk album)
