Help with Major Research Projects

08-05-2004, 06:46
Hi all. For my major assessments in both Modern and Ancient History this year (I am at high school) I have to write a 1500 word essay (plus synopsis etc). For Ancient I have settled on the Crusades, but I need to form a question to address in the essay. For instance, one of my friend's questions is "Evaluate the historicity of the Trojan Wars".
For Modern, I have settled on the topic of Africa during the 19th Century. Again, I am in need of a precise question.
Either of these can involve the roles of specific personalities, causes and consequences. Anything you can think of really. Also, if anyone has a suggestion for a topic other than the Crusades or Africa, these would also be appreciated as my decisions are not set in stone. Keep in mind however, that Ancient encompasses anything until the 1600's, and Modern must be an event, personality, situation etc from the 19th Century. Thanks in advance, I look forward to some interesting responses.

 The Crusades are considered Ancient History in the US? :?

How about.

"To what extent did the Crusade represent the growing political power of the Papacy"

or

"Where the Crusades justified"

I'll think up some more.

For Modern:

"What was the cost of colouring the Cape to Cairo Pink?"

I know very little about Africa, sorry

However if you need to focus on individuals your best bet could be to find an individual (eg Napoleon or Innocent III) and examain the events in their life.

Hahaha, I live in Australia, not the US. But yes, they are considered ancient history in this particular class. I admit 1600 seems a little late to be considered ancient but what can you do? Thanks for your suggestions, I see I'll need to do a little more research.... Papacy? Haha, oh. I feel ignorant.
