Nice people

What is the nicest thing another person has ever done for you? When did another person make you the happiest or the most proud to be a human?

The nicest thing somebody ever did for me is when my lover told me he would rather give up his fellowship to grad school than lose me as his best friend. I would never let him give up something like that, but the fact that he was willing to do it meant everything to me.

The proudest I have ever been because of another person was when my little brother stood up for a Muslim boy at his school. My brother is a shy, and not terribly popular kid, but one day I arrived to pick him up at school and saw him staring down two older boys who were picking on his Muslim classmate. My brother is too young to really understand racism or the political winds that blow in these times, and all he was thinking about was that two against one wasn't fair fighting. I have never been so proud of anybody in my life, and I bought him the biggest ice cream sunday in the midwest (to put the reward in terms a 11-year-old would understand).

My son befriended a poor (and dirty) boy everyone else rejected. It cost him some popularity. I've always been very proud of that.

We were broke and had moved into a damaged house in a rough neighborhood. We had a used refrigerator but nothing to put in it. I came back from jobhunting one evening and found the fridge and its little freezer full of cuts of meat, and some veggies, all wrapped in plain brown paper. I never found out who did it, although I could make a good guess. Thanks, Tim, you're a nice guy.

I am proud of my little sister for starting a group called Teens Against Discrimination at her high school. That takes courage to do in a very racist environment like the town she goes to school in.

One of the nicest things one of my friends ever did for me was to get me a date for Prom. A blind date, but it worked out well.

That DOES take a lot of courage. Good for her!

When my best friend just shut the hell up and listened to me. It meant alot to me.

Also the time irold one of my friends I had feelings for her, and she listened and understood, and wasn't weird about it.

My girlfriend moved to California with me when I unexpectedly won my fellowship. We'd made solid plans to move to Florida to be close to her family and she put her plans on hold for two more years to be with me. I get to return the favor in a year or so.

I've always hated my birthdays; everything on that day seems to go terribly wrong, and each time I just wish it'd go away for good. My 16th birthday was coming up (and that's a pretty important one for some people) and I was seriously just wishing that it'd never come. My family made no plans for it and my friends didn't mention it at all.

On that day, a friend of mine asked me to go to the mall with her (Hate Malls, btw. I just felt depressed and needed someone to talk to). We got there...and at least 10 of my friends where there, throwing me a suprise sweet sixteen party. That definitely had to be one of the happiest moments of my life, just to know that my friends cared about me that much and that they were willing to go through so much trouble. (Not to mention all dress like Hippis...long story, but we had fun distubring people). I love them all and will never forget that. It may seem kinda odd or unimportant, but it meant a whole lot to me.

The nicest thing done for me:

A sincere apology when they made a mistake. That is the greatest gift.

What is the nicest thing another person has ever done for you?

My friend Mara was there for me a few nights ago when things were rough at home, and I thought I had no way out. She simply asked if she could come get me, save me from the madness. That was nice enough.

When did another person make you the happiest or the most proud to be a human?

Katie, my girlfriend, makes me happy everyday and makes me proud everyday, too. She makes me so comfortable with who I am, that makes me happy and proud, and I'm glad I can share that with her.

My wife heard a teenager talking to his friends about he was stupid and ugly and would never have a girl. And she told him she thought he was cute. My wife is the kindest woman I've ever met. I wish I had the heart she has.

Well, take a trip to Mexico and find a back alley clinic and you can. Of course, it might make it hard for her to keep living... :D

Dude, it's your wedding night, go do something unspeakable to your wife.

One of my uncles whenever he does anything with me. He's just a few years older than me, so we're extremely similar. He's the only person I know who listens intently to what I have to say, even when I'm talking about something that no one else I know would even feel the need to feign interest to. He gives a shit, and that's rare in this day and age.
