did you know yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the first four-minute-mile run by Roger Bannister at the Iffley Road track in Oxford, just over the road from where I am right now.

Well done on beating your PB - you must be so excited.

Not bad, considering that I run a 6:43. However I'm gonna be biking between 500-900 miles this summer and I think I'm gonna join Fall Track and Field next yr.

Yeah. I did know that. It's amazing. I could never imagine getting there. But, there still is hope.

how old are you?
there's every chance
as they say "where there's a will there's a way"
I could never achieve a four minute mile simply because I don't have the will

I'm 15 and a freshman in high school. People say I have the will to get better since I slowly have, but i believe my will is slowly running dry. *sigh*

One time a guy started dissing me for walking the mile. And he started flirting saying he could run a six, and he'd teach me how since I wasn't as athletic as him. He then tried to touch me and I kicked him in the balls with my athletic shoes. He walked stumbling around that whole mile and got a 18:55

Hell when I was in shape I couldn't do a 7 minute mile. I could do a 25 second 200m sprint though and that was pretty good for me.

Hey, well, to be a sprinter you have to have natural talent.

The lowest I ever got in the mile was sometime in the mid-6 minute range, I think. Its been a while since I last checked. Makes sense, since in track I always did short distance - 200 x 4, and of course the 100 Yard dash.

In my days (early 80's, long before some of you were born, by seeing your ages), I managed a 5:30 mile a few times. My proudest moment came when I was in basic training, and ran a 1 1/2 mile in 9:30 (I was 20 years old and weighed 140 lbs back then.) Nowadays, 15 years, 40 pounds, a job, a marriage and a child later, I am glad to drag myself for a 12:08 mile and a half.

All in all, good job!

I went to school with this girl that ran a 5:26. It was insane. And every guy respected her because she could run faster, and you didn't want her to kick you. Anywhere, much less where it counts.

With your tongue? I'll call very that impressive.

For 15, breaking a 6 minute mile is very good. At 15, I don't think I could have run a mile at all. Now, at 17, I'm about 5'6, 180, and can run roundabouts a 5 minute if I'm willing to throw up afterwards, and can keep up 7's forever if I'm not. My strategically located fat reserves hide themselves well enough to keep me aerodynamic, while being large enough to provide enough energy to last for anything. This is playing no sports, mind you, just from a low-self esteem clashing with megalomania and slowly realizing that I should be the best of all people at all things.
Everyone develops a lot during high school. Devoted people from my school who just barely broke 6 min as a Freshman were running 4:23's by the middle of senior year. You stand a chance of being something big if you keep improving.

I got somewhere around 8:00. Of course my sport is tennis and I doubt Ill be running a mile strait in that.

The day I run a 6 minute mile will be when I am chased by lions or some other strange safari accident.
