No, it's just that I was somewhat lost in and endless sea of big numbers without knowing what to look for

USA uses too much oil?

Well then its useless. I can give you a whole lot of numbers, but they are useless if they arent in a context.

Also those stats are fairly old. They have been making the rounds for at least a year.

I doubt the percentual part has changed much, though. Meaning, USA still uses too much oil.

Interesting... according to the stastics at the 2nd link from Kirtondom, http://www.globastat.com/m8.htm, the U.S. spends 276,700.0 million (USD) while Singapore spends 5,000.0(USD). From the CIA World Factbook ( http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/us.html and http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/sn.html ), the populations of the U.S. and Singapore are 290,342,554 and 4,608,595, respectively. So, while the U.S. spends about 55 times as much militarily than Singapore, it has 72 times the population (meaning, it spends less per person than Singapore, even adding in the $85 billion spent on Afghanistan and Iraq). My point is, stastistics themselves are misleading; they must be displayed in the proper context. While the spending of the United States militarily may seem excessive, factors such as the size and population of the country must be taken into account. To quote Benjamin Disraeli, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

That's the thing that I see with the stats. However, we have greatly increased our use of oil in the last decade due to the SUV craze. I personally own a Honda Insight (suprisingly, has more power than most 4 cylinder gas misers put out in America) and I have to say that I can't understand how the US Manufacturers can't see an increase in sales if they pushed more hybrids with a slogan like "help America from being under the thumb of other countries by supporting this American cause..." blah, blah, blah. The government already offers tax rebates for purchasing hybrid cars. Just seems like a natural marketing campaign for American Car Manufacturers.
