I think it's all a matter of media manipulation, using as pawns to sow the seeds for our leaders to use us for whatever ends they ultimately seek. The media is an outlet which strives to control us and our minds. Some of what we know of other cultures and religions and horribly biased because of mass media. Some of what they do say is true, but there is a great deal that has been tainted by bias and opinions that don 't have a place in the news and are hardly validated unless backed by substantial evidence.

do you think the media is under someone's control or just grasping for ratings?

goes back to the crusades. the europians and arabians started their distrust over the holy land, waged war, blah blah blah. now the western world is viewed by the east as a conteneuation of the europian hostilities that where imposed during the 10th, 11th, and 12th centuries.

My thoughts exactly. Most people now who hate the Middle East do so specifically because of what they've heard from the rumor mill, whether it's Bush's personal statement or CNN trying to get an exclusive story.

I say religion. if you allow religion to govern you, you become a slave. the "east" doesn't really have a seperation of church and state and stuff

You should come to europe, and experience how the arabs and muslims are spreading their hate, crime, gang-rapes, etc..etc...on european soil.
In europe it has nthing to do with the roumor mill, its on the streets.

I'm half Middle-East, and I live in America

I really don't see why you think that way...other than that your mis-informed

because the east is just a long series of islamic fundementalists who want to blow everything up while repressing women and encouraging ritualistic abuse.

And the west is the devil, embodied in american capitalism which must be purged from this earth in order for everyone to ascend to the next level of conciousness.

Are you a complete ignorant colodia??????

I can't be misinformed..I'm telling what I'm experiencing in my country...not what I hear................
Its the same old story...(if you dislike them, it's because you lack information). But emperical knowledge is something else.....

I don't see a dimes worth of difference between Osama calling the war Jihad and Bush calling it a Crusade!

As far as Islamic terrorism is concerned, do you think it might be a reaction to the support of the Royal Saudi Family, their supplying both sides of the Iran-Iraq War, and westerners owning Kuwaiti and Saudi oil fields?

heh, interesting analogy. it's true that jihad means to westerners that crusade means to muslims and vice versa.

I love the way everyone here is equating the East solely with the Middle-East. The East also consists of a billion Indians and a billion more Chinese along with a few hundred million muslims in SE Asia (who tend to not be that radical), and a few hundred million more Christians and Buddhists.

Also what is this "West" that you talk of? Is this the same philosophy that sees "Europe" as a miraculous single entity?

Also, maybe everyone should stop and think that the average man in the street doesn't hate "the West"- as always, the actions of a handful of fanatics give the rest a bad name. It's like fundamentalist Christians in the US- I'm sure the majority of christians aren't concerned with telling others that they will burn in hell forever but the handful that do give the rest a bad name.

And Colodia- I thought you were half Indian?

Well if you want to get back to original definitions, during the days of the british Empire, everything East of Suez was defined as "The East". The Middle East (or the near east as it was called then) was generally taken to mean the Arab countries although this is now generally extended to include Iran even though Iranians aren't Arabs. After that, we get to the Indian Sub-Continent (sadly everyone overlooks the fact that it's as big as Europe and contains just as many different cultures) consisting of old British India and now India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

From India, onwards you get the Far East.

So Indians are Indians not Middle-Eastern.

Ehh... I live in Europe and I for one haven't noticed that kind of thing going on... The Arabian or Muslim people who live in Europe are usually those that just want to get on with their lives just like everyone else. If anything, it's the right-wing patriots that are the threat, beating and gang-raping the immigrants and maybe anyone seen being friendly with them as well.
