Why did we declare war on Iraq after Saudis attacked on 9/11

Did congress issue a declaration of war?

The last "official" war was WWII.

No he's a dumb elephant.

What I can't understand is why congress went along with Bush's plan.

Many of hte senetors don't have access to intelligence for a variety of reasons. Some of them sit and the rest take their opinions for granted.

So if all the Intel says Sadaam has nukes ready to go then you are going to think "Let's get the bastard!"

After the major fighting is done, you are then told Opps we made a mistake!

In the scheme of things, the main reasons were oil and money. Haliburnt(ie Dick Cheney) is making gobs of money with helping to "rebuild" Iraq.

I wonder if the Christian fronts are going to offer "aid" over there?

Ahh well....

I think they already are. Didn't four baptist missionaries get killed offering "aid"?

If one of the main reasons for fighting Iraq was to obtain access to cheaper oil, why has the price of gas risen so high? Seems to me that the price should be closer to $1 per gallon than $2 if that were the case.

When did Iraq attack the USA?
06-05-2004, 03:03
First, Christian aid relief groups have had a fair but small presence... it's actually fairly embarrassing, actually. I mean, they're willing to help out in Zaire and Sudan when Christians are killed, but when some Muslims are only facing starvation, overzealous American troops, and suicide bombers, they get cold feet. "We have other priorities."

Second, the reasons for going to war with Iraq and not Saudi Arabia are complex. The 9/11 hijackers did not have the support of the whole of the Saudi government- some factions support bin Laden, some support the United States. We would have lost the support of the pro-U.S. factions had we invaded Saudi Arabia, and we could have expected a mass insurgency on the part of American Muslims for... I dunno... invading THE MOST HOLY COUNTRY TO MUSLIMS! I mean, Jesus! Think for a second!

Iraq was a more tempting target because: 1) Halliburton can give nice kickbacks, 2) Bush/Cheney supporters were more willing to donate to a wartime President who takes the battles to "the enemy", 3) People like war, 4) Reconstruction contracts are sweet deals, 5) Stirring up anger in the Arab world keeps Bush in the office longer. After all, "We're in the middle of a war- let's not change course midstream." Yeah, and he got us into it, the asshole.

Well, it's possible that at some point in the future they may have been in a position to possibly either buy or make weapons that could have potentially been used against us...probably.

Regardless, they were thinking evil thoughts (namely that they were a sovergn power) and we couldn't be having with that.

Allow me to deconstruct your arguments.

First of all, Michael Moore's books have been bestsellers. He may be hated by a significant percentage of the population, but not 90%. He couldn't and still get those book sales. Bowling for Columbine had some of the highest grosses for an independent movie in America on record.

Second, it is an indisputable fact that the Bush family has deep connections to the bin Laden family in Saudi Arabia. Governor Jeb Bush of Florida lived not far from some of the bin Laden members who lived in Florida. Bin Laden money helped finance a number of the Bush family economic ventures, and vice versa. They have been regular guests at the White House.

Third, you've judged the movie before even seeing it. Regardless of however well-founded the accusations in the movie may have been, regardless of its artistic merit, regardless of the research that went into the movie, and regardless of the rightness of the accusations, you've dismissed it as a pile of crap. That's incredibly, incredibly stupid. I mean, I may hate Ann Coulter, Dinesh D'Souza, and other "conservative" media presences, but at least I've bothered to read their works before passing judgment on them. You, apparently, are not willing to do any such thing. That says a lot about your maturity and intelligence, or lack thereof.

Iraq had oil and wasn't all that well liked by their neighbours. Attacking Saudi-Arabia would have shut off USA oil lines almost completely, the price on gasoline would have shot through the roof, and Bush would have faced a political harakiri (Japanese suicide method to reclaim one's honor by dying for it).

The last "official" war was WWII.

You really need to read the Hague Treaties on the rules of war..lol A war is declared under International law by either A) A declaration or B) An Ultimatum.

Don't try and tell me that the USA never gave Saddam an ultimatum.. ;)

P.S. Are you going to make me prove this too? lol If I'm not mistaken it's Hague 3(1) but I'm not 100% if that's the right code.. if you need me to prove it to you, I'll look it up..lol but I'm pretty sure ..

yea, i think its pretty much established that bush declared war for 2 reasons (and yes, it was an actual war, otherwise they wouldnt be able to hold "prisoners of war"...and the soldiers wouldnt be able to have fun molesting them and such....anyway, 2 reasons
1)to make daddy proud: he was doing what daddy couldnt finish, because daddy wasnt stupid enough to finish it

2) iraqi's are sitting on the biggest oil operation, and they are charging americans so very much for it nowadays, bush wants to take over another multi-billion dollar industry to spend more money on there already unstopable military (maybe they should invest more money in education and health like us canadians) :D

That was a pretty good film actually - you know the one with Jack Nicholson as that army guy who went "You want the truth??? You can't handle the truth!!!" I figure that it was from that man at that very moment, that many war advocating Republicans took their lead.
