AL GORE buys a 'Canadian' TV network airing in the U.S.

"Newsworld International" was the division of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation which was based in the U.S.; its format being all-news and documentaries. Though the CBC sold it to U.S. investors some years ago, it apparently still shows mostly-Canadian news programming created by the CBC to American audiences.

Anyone seeing CBC news programming is usually impressed with its well-researched and unbiased reportage that's far less tainted by the Conservatism that's infected so much U.S. media.

In a rather interesting twist, a new group of investors headed by Al Gore has just bought the network.

Gore claims the network won't be politically-biased, but one can't help but think it's going to be groomed as a much-needed antidote to the horrible Fox News. If Newsworld Int'l keeps running CBC programming, it certainly will be!

If it has Canadian news content provided by the CBC, isn't it already an antidote to FOX?

I wonder if NewsWorld and NewsWorld International are the same.

Let me get this straight. People claim that Fox News is biased because Rupert Murdoch is a "Neo Conservative", but when Al Gore leads the investment in a network, its credible?

How do you figure that? CBC is like the BBC, very objective, FOX news is owned by a signatory member of PNAC and only reports one side of the story.

Good question Kwangistar.

Personally, I really don't want to see any politician controlling the media. Granted, the CBC is a public company that receives public funds, but the government certainly doesn't tell them want to print/air.

Which returns me to hoping that CBC NewsWorld and NewsWorld International are separate entities. Cause I'd really hate to see an American politician influencing Canadian news -- more than the US does already by being so important and dominant in the media and political arenas.

Well, I guess we shall find out soon enough if the CBC newsworld starts only telling us half the story they want us to hear like they do on Fox news. I think it will be fairly obvious if this is done to us who watch CBC news all the time.

Well, Stephistan, I guess I feel that unbiased, objective reporting is an antidote to FOX. If NewsWorld became the Democrat version of FOX, it wouldn't be an antidote, it would just be a different kind of poison.

Does that make sense?

Anyway, turns out NewsWorld is NewsWorld International. So I guess a good way to see if ownership is editing NewsWorld broadcasts is to watch the National on CBC at 6 and then the National on NewsWorld at 11 and see if their are any differences!

To be fair, Al Gore is no longer a politician and has frequently claimed he intends to pursue no further political activity. Time will tell, though.

I agree with your first remark. CBC Newsworld (Canada) and Newsworld International (USA) were both established and owned by the CBC. However the USA division was sold to U.S. investors some years ago and has been re-sold a couple of times. Despite the American ownership, the USA division still shows mostly CBC content apparently.

Garaj Mahal is an Australian Album

I saw an interview with the band in the U.S. magazine "Relix" on the same day I signed-on with NS - thought it made for a cool name for a country.

Al Gore wants to spread liberalism through America. Don't we already have Koppel for that?
