NEW YORK, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Secretary of State Colin Powell is
exhausted, frustrated, and bitter, uncomfortable with President George W.
Bush's agenda, and fatigued from his battles with the Pentagon, reports GQ
magazine writer-at-large Wil S. Hylton in the June 2004 issue of GQ magazine.
Hylton's exclusive article, "Casualty of War," in which he talks with Powell
and his closest friends and colleagues openly and on the record, is available
online at http://www.gq.com.

I always had a lot of respect for the man. Hopefully he will get out and salvage something of his reputation.

I always said he should have challengeed them all and ran for President..he was if not loved at least respected in the military...he had the"come from the poor streets of Jamaica-look at me now" background, he is well educated, religous but not pushy about it...highly intelligent, articulate..a shame he never ran...but his wife persuaded him not to basically, she was afraid for him, and to him that mattered more...I like character aspect in him...family over career....Personally I believe she thought that no black man has ever successfully made a run for the White House and feared that even if her husband succeeded he'd never live long enough to enjoy the office.

It's well known he and Rumsfeld and Cheney have been at odds during the first term of office..and he always said..."I serve at the pleasure of the President"..indicating to me that if Bush wanted somene else he'd leave with no regrets.

Yep. A Powell-McCain ticket (or vice versa) may well have won with less divisiveness than the current administration. That team would most likely have been much better for the country right now, as well. Too bad the Hard-line cultural and religious right has taken over the GOP. :(

Powell should have gotten out earlier, when his reputation was still intact. That would have given Bush and co. a well needed heads up, as well.

Yes...McCain & Powell as the Prez/VP....for a ticket...not sure you'd get the South to vote if it was the other way around...but both could snag the Veteran/Active Duty I believe...Powell would bring in the minorities like never before..even the possibility of getting Democrat minorities to jump ship...McCain and Powell could also convince fellow Republicans that while they'd be more inclined to commit to diplomacy they'd also not let them think that they would not be capable of using force either...they'd just use force smarter.
