Play anything?

Does anyone play any instruments? I play the guitar and the trumpet, the former much more often than the latter. I've been playing guitar for about 3 months and trumpet for about 3 years. I'm not very good at either. I never, ever practice trumpet: I hate the trumpet and I plan to stop at the end of the school year because I'm in the school band. In the area of guitar, I just haven't been playing long enough.

If there are any other guitarists out there, by the way, maybe we could swap guitar tips (well, you'd probably be giving the tips and I would be nodding and kicking myself for not thinking of anything you say).

The trumpet is a terrible instrument. I was forced to play the trumpet for 2 years in the school band  . I hated it with a passion but I used to get out of a lot of school due to excursions and band camp was under age drinking central!!! Well worth wearing those stupid uniforms!
The one good thing about school band would be the unlimited access to the school music rooms. If you manage to start a rock band it will give you somewhere to practice without your olds getting annoyed. :P

Heh, I'm getting out of it before band camp starts up. The only downside is I won't be able to be there when people start going crazy with flutes.

And I want to start a band, but no one I know can really sing the way I would want them to. I'm just picky, though. If someone wanted me to join their band, I'd probably say yes right away. Even if that person were Celine Dion or something.

Ok, not Celine Dion. Never Celine Dion.

Heh. I'm a high school senior, and I've stuck with the trombone the entire way. That's right...7 years of trombone hell. It's not that I hate band; it's just that: 1) I HATE the sound of the trombone, but I'm too lazy to switch to another instrument (preferably horn or trumpet), and 2) I'm too lazy to practice. I'm a full-fledged band nerd, though...wouldn't give it up for anything. :D Oh yeah, I used to play piano waaay back when, but I hated it, and I quit. Now I wish I hadn't. *sigh* Pity... :(

Hey, don't rawr me or I will pull an "I am your biological mother" on you.

Monte Ozarka: Do you have to do anything besides play in-school concerts? Because my school district's high school band does all this crazy stuff, traveling everywhere. That's why I don't want to stay in band. And I would probably lose my butt virginity to one (or both) of my teachers. And one of them looks like a chipmunk. A high chipmunk.

Drums for about 12 years, piano for 4 years, just starting to learn guitar and bass. I'm not very good at any of them except drums. Drums is definately my instrument.

You just started guitar and bass, Sdaeriji? How long does that translate to? Because I might be able to point you in the direction of some good internet resources.

And I forget to add it in my other posts, but here is a good site for guitar players of all skill levels. (www.wholenote.com) This is where I learned what I know so far. Just check under "Lessons".

Edit: Almost forgot, this is a good site for bass players too. (www.activebass.com)

About a month. Not long at all. I've started learning how to play popular songs, that's about it. I've got my guitarist from my old band teaching me.

I've played trumpet for about 8 years now, I don't exactly hate it, but I prefer other instruments. Currently in the school band (concert band, marching band, except the Jazz band we have, play trumpet there), I play Tuba/Suzaphone, that's right, I march about in a horrid uniform with very unflattering cowboyish hats and a suzaphone wrapped around me(It's a marching tuba, the big white thing that wraps around the player's body).

Do your uniforms look like the military uniforms from one of those fake European countries in Marx Brothers movies?

I don't own one. I practice on my friend/teachers guitar. I don't know what kind it is, but I can ask the next time I talk to him. Is yours a good guitar? I don't know guitars, I'm afraid.

I know those kind of tubas. The "Tuba Girl" section in my school band plays them. Which is funny, because they're all about 80 pounds and four feet tall. The girls and the tubas.

All of you who keep complaining that you are no good at playing the guitar, give it a while(by a while I mean about a year) if you are still no good, use your guitar for fire wood. I din't mean to discourage you but by then you should have good enough command of the instrument to play anything that you have the sheets to some stiff you hear and write your own music ,at least somewhat. If you can't you probably never will. Let me explain, I had a friend in and just after highschool he took guitar lessons for years. He never was much good. He was given a new guitar when we were juniors and sold me his old guitar for next to nothing. In spite of his years of lessons and my jusy buying a book that showed how to make chords, by gratuation I could play far better that he could. Don't give up before you have tried for about a year, play often, but after that you robably won't get it, sorry.

Oh, I play guitar and harmonica.

Can't say I've ever seen the movies, though the uniforms are made disgusting mostly becuase of the hats. It's just black pants, with a jacket that has a black left corner, a red diagonal stripe across the chest, seperating the black left corner, from the white upper, and it does have epaulettes, but they aren't very decorative, and the back is white. It looked much better with the older Grenadier hats, whoever decided these things looked better must've been hit in the head with a brick one too many times.

They have to play the suzaphone in the band too, poor girls, I had to do that for my freshman year after the second normal tuba broke, getting on stage was...... fun.

Yeah, I'm still learning. I'm not taking to well to it, but I'm giving it a shot. I want to be able to write and record all of my music if I want to.

For concert band? Besides our annual trip, no, not really. We're pretty boring as a band, except for our ungodly massive size. We amuse ourselves pretty well, though. :D And thank you for a good laugh.

I envy you guys for being able to play an instrument. The only thing I play is playstation :(

I do have a guitar but learning to play it proved to be both though and very time consuming. It was especially the later that made me neglect practicing :( I haven't picked the thing up in years.
