The news as it happens:
http://www.indymedia.ie/index.php
Dublin is not safe for our American cousins, it appears
"This Public Announcement is being issued to alert U.S. citizens to the potential for large-scale anti-globalization protests in highly-visited sections of Dublin from April 30 through May 3, 2004, in connection with the European Union enlargement “Days of Welcome,” sponsored by the EU Irish Presidency. This Public Announcement expires on May 14, 2004."

I dont get it. I always thought that Ireland is quite pro-American. Why would there be trouble for us here?

Well, actually we just had 6,000 people marching peacefully here (in Northern Ireland) against a rise in racist attacks over the last year.

Flying guns and troops through Shannon airport and thus embroiling the neutral country of Ireland in the whole Gulf War II malarky?

Isn't it funny how people decry Fox News en masse every time its posted on this board, and Indymedia is accepted as a good source.

Are you claiming that there is, in fact, no protest occuring in Dublin?
Or maybe you are suggesting that we should apply our own critical facilities whenever we read any news source?
(The first is ludicrous, the second is obvious...)

There very may well be protests in Ireland - in fact, there's probably protests in every country in the world without Saddam-like dictators.
However, people jump on anyone who posts Fox News and write essays about Fox News, yet IndyMedia is somehow different. Of course, you posted the governments warning itself, or the link to it, which changes the equation. This isn't the first time I've seen links to indymedia though.

Well: the last serious breach of order at one of these protests in Dublin was started by the police, who began batoning people indiscriminately - without first asking their nationality...

there is no better source for coverage of any left-leaning protest event than the local indymedia. open publishing means that some of the stories suck, but indymedia serves all of your protest porn needs. it simply has the best photographic coverage you could ask for.
