If anyone's online from the 10 new countries, I'd like to say 'welcome to the club boys!'

I hope the new EU will bring us all peace, prosperity and progess.

I'd like to know how the European nations that are still holding out of the EU feel right now.

Well, Norway and Switzerland seem to be getting on very well without the EU.

Yeah, but I bet it's starting to look alot more lonely on the outside.

Switzerland cannot join because then their banks and depositories would be open to regulation, and people might start to poke around in the Nazi assets they have been storing all this time, not to mention that of every terrorist organisation and dictator ever. Which would undermine their blissfully unaware happy prosperous life quite a bit, I should imagine.

Norway, not sure what's going on there, but they cannot resist forever.

LoL, Tactical Grace has a point. But also, I think Switzerland is probably prevented from joining because of their strict neutrality.. they joined the UN quite late. My knowledge of Swiss history is pretty poor, someone else can probably fill you in.

Norway have already voted a few times to stay out, I'm not sure what their reasons were, someone from Norway could probably tell you. Maybe they don't want regulation of their fishing, whaling etc.

Whats a bit silly about the EU is how landlocked Luxumbourg, Czech Rep and Hungary now have a say in British fisheries policy :?:

Anyway, as I say, welcome to the club lads!

Illegal whaling? Generally they use oil to smooth over thier disagreements, but being in the EU might make it harder to get away with things.

Don't do it, save your own country, don't touch the EU with a barge pole. Says the British Conservative.

The EU has become far too political it won't be soon before it becomes USE or Europe Unis etc.

Yeah, but if Europe would only unite.. they would be a world super power.. I so miss the days of the cold war.. having just one super power sucks.. no one to keep them in check. As I see it the EU is the only chance we have. I know I don't want China being the "other" super power.. so if not the EU... we're screwed!

That'll never happen cos the people of Europe don't want it.

But I wouldn't put it past our leaders to dress it up with another name and force it on us  Blair stylee.

Well then, if Europe won't unite .. that means we are stuck with the Americans as the only super power.. please don't do that to the world.. Unite god damn it! LOL..

Well, Ireland (IIRC) has been a neutral country ever since its creation, but that hasn't prevented it from joining the EU, so I don't know if that is really an issue.

Well, 'the people of Europe' were getting baton charged and water-cannoned just outside where Blair was attending one of the welcoming functions for the new countries just the other day... I'm sure they didn't want it.
