What makes you happy?
I read in a thread the comment that people on this Forum just like complaining and thought to myself that yes it is true.
Well, how about, for a change, we make positive statements about what makes us happy?
No negatives please and no snide digs.
What makes me happy is my wife whom I love and the chance of a lie in on a Saturday morning. A good book to read. Finally solving a problem, that feeling of Eureka I Have The Answer!
i enjoy being by myself sometimes. sometimes i like to get bleedin drunk with a bunch of people. i dunno...

Not many responses here.
Seems to prove you're initial point (shame)
I concur with the good book and a hug from the wife.
Would add Walking throught the woods when the bluebells are out.

What makes me happy? hmmm, there are different kinds of happy.
What makes me content is a good game of Madness Interactive or Dragon Force over college lunchtime, or to watch a good Flash movie.
What makes me really happy: A good friday with the Simpsons, friends, maybe a good DVD or some good hours of WCIII, whilst listening to One Winged Angel or other FF music.

Wait... now I'm confused :?

Ah yes the happiness caused by a good laugh.
Blazing Saddles, Airplane, Naked Gun. Nothing like a good laugh to make you feel good.

Fulfilling a lifelong dream. I have been an Elvis fan since I was a little girl and last year I actually went to Graceland. I think it was the happiest time of my life, tinged with the inevitable sadness that Elvis is dead. Nonetheless, I walked in places that Elvis had walked, saw his house, his cars and all of his awards. A dream come true.

What?..these things make me happy..so...I can't help it if I'm a simple man with simple pleasures?

Writing a poem, even if it ends up being crap.
A strong beer when I get home from work.
Talking to my daughter on the phone--or even better, seeing her.
Publishing acceptances--haven't gotten any in quite a while.
Playing a song dead perfect on my guitar.
Finding a book I can just get lost in.

I'm assuming you're a writer...writer's block eh...publishers not coming calling?

I am a writer, and fortunately not in the throes of writer's block at present, but poetry is a hard business, and even though I've got a pretty prestigious fellowship right now, the only difference it's made in the publishing world is that I get a slightly better class of rejection letter.
It'll come though. I just have to make sure I worry about the work first and the publishing second.

I think I'm stuck in a perpetual "I'll be happy when..." type of mode. Whatever though, I have a fairly easy life, better than most. I dunno though, just having a good life doesn't do it for me, probably because it's not of my own doing. Ach, I sound like one of those abhorrent, annoying whiners on those crappy talk-shows and such. *Slaps self*.

well, i suppose it's easier to be happy when you live a hard life because you're more grateful for the little things

Its hard to be happy in a world that's upsidedown. The best people i know are poor college kids, they'd share anything with me, and the worst people I know are making big bucks and big decisions in political office. I don't really get happy either, I just get angrier and angrier untill I snap and someone gets taken down. You can't be happy in a sad world, just turn on the news. So what makes me happy? Killing time and waiting for it all to be over. <3

Awww its not that bad, hope is important to have too, but the more ugly things you take head on the stronger you get, and maybe when you finally see all the 'horror', to quote Apocalypse Now, you wont be sad or upset about it anymore.

I know what you mean. I snap at people who don't really deserve it, and then I feel bad about it, but I can't help it at the time. I mean, anger can be good, but mostly I can't express it in anything other than a physical or verbal manner. I've punched and shattered mirrors, punched through doors, pretty much punched or kicked anything within reach. On the plus side, hardly anyone dares to cross me when I get really angry.

I hate being happy!! I think it sucks!
And I hate happy people! The one's that go around showing off how friggin' happy they are!! They should be shot out of pitty!! They make me go Yuck!!
Anyways, I'm pretty happy in general and usually for no particular reason except that I must be masochistic!!

Oh i always snap at someone who deserves it, i just get the proportion wrong. But you're definitely right people in this country (America) get angry at the wrong things. Bush will cost a family thousands in education cuts and welfare cuts etc, but people dont get mad 'till someone cuts them off on the freeway. I never understand that way of thinking. How come no one ever goes to the source of thousands of problems. Instead the one that crossed their path once is their avenue to retribution. Money is the drug of America, and if you have it, all of lifes problems go away. Look to the people who have money, they're the ones taking it from you.
