Out with the old and in with the new!
In my paper today there are 6 pictures of US troops degrading and torturing Iraqi prisoners. I thought that the whole point of the US' illegal invasion of Iraq was to stop this sort of thing?
All of the arguments for Iraq so far have mentioned how the US has made things better, this looks like more of the same to me. Oh it starts off small and gets worse over time. And what happened in that jail that didn't get photographed?
I am sure that american posters will have seen these pictures and maybe more on their news programmes but just in case here is a brief description for you:
1. Man standing on a box with a hood on and wires attached to his hands, apparently told that if he fell off the box he would be electrocuted. This is the only picture where the prisoner has clothes on by the way.
2. Two grinning GIs standing over a pyramid of Iraqis, all naked and all with hoods on.
3. Four naked Iraqis, two sitting on floor, the other two made to sit on their backs, all four hooded.
4. Naked Iraqi with a word written on his body, think it maybe "Rappist", either GIs dont like rap music or they can't spell.
5. Row of naked Iraqis standing against a wall with hoods on and a grinning female GI pointing at their privates.
6. Five Iraqis naked and hooded and forced to climb on top of each other.
So much for American Human Rights! This along with the torture and imprisonment of suspects in Guantanamo Bay really do not do the US any favours at all in the eyes of the International Community.
I will be amazed of anyone out there in NS can find a valid reason for this behaviour.
