Final countdown - Europe

1st of May what a glorious day this will be, just cannot wait. The dark and rainy clouds that hang over Poland will miraculously and instantaneously part way and disappear and instead bright and shinny EU sun will come out and shine rays of happiness in the land while spreading joyous amnesia about the past. Tremendous new trees will sprout but surprise instead of leaves funny, little, coloured, rectangular pieces of paper will grow. No longer will the inhabitants of this formerly batted and bruised country (or is it now a state) feel like second class citizens, oh no, they will now be freely able to enjoy working the streets just like any EU citizen who drives on them in their brand spanking new roadster. The rest of the population of our polish friends will have the right to join the prostitutes in a few years time, just as soon as the pesky farming industry collapses on itself and a supernova shockwave of EU companies helps out in reconstruction of the marketplace giving magnificent freebies to anyone who will sign the contract of great opportunity in that famous red ink of life. The celebrations will be fantastically huge, spectacular events especially amongst the corrupted politicians and mysterious people of influence who worked so damn hard to make this historic prospect come true. Nevertheless there are a few troublemakers who prophesise that all this is not a profitable vision for the continent. There is fear and trepidation amongst some. Of course there is, because our hour of glory has come. After, oh so many years of hardship in the wilderness a tactical misjudgement will allow us to leapfrog everyone and be at the top of Europe once again. But I am sure the other EU nations will not mind at all and understand, after all we are all equal, we are all best of friends now and friends do not screw each other over and stab each other in the back, right. Sigh, if it only be so Nice…

Poor Poland. They were under Nazi control, then under the Iron Curtain for 45 years, and now they are becoming a state of Europe.

Hey-- in WWII, Poland had the best cavalry in the world. Their horsemen were finer than any other... If only those damn tanks hadn't been invented.

Pity that usually the loudest people are ignorant and racist pinheads who can count their IQ on their fingers. For those of you who missed the point, this is meant to spark a debate over the EU expansion, the voting system etc. Anyone with at least half a brain is welcome to leave their opinion on that topic otherwise if you have nothing to say please do it without wasting server space.

White Eagle, here, as in real life topics often morph quickly. Flaming those
involved in the morphing is rarely a good idea. Calling people Ignorant racist pinheads and the like is more likely to get you deeted than redirect your topic back to where you wanted. Just a bit of helpful advice.
Out of curiostity, would you like the opinions of those with whole brains, as well? ;)
If so, here are my two cents: the EU will make it as a trade union, but not a USE. Too many differences in culture and not anyone really willing to give up enough sovereignty to make it work. And all the expansion to the east you want will not fix those problems.

I obviously missed out the “at least” bit but people with whole brains don’t necessarily use the whole of the brain anyway 8)
Surely my general comments wouldn’t be considered as flaming especially since there was a little provocation involved. Anyway the comment was not directed at anyone in particular and definitely not at you.
Do you think that danger or lets call it “competition” from other regions of the world might help fix those cultural problems a bit faster?

No worries. ;)

Nope, not as it stands. Coalescence has historically only come out of force. Germany, Italy, Japan, China, Russia, and even the US, among many, many examples, required wars before actually overcoming the same sorts of problems the EU faces now. And there is no reason to believe human nature has changed .
(BTW I wrote a paper on this exact topic for my European Comparitive Politics class in the fall of 1990 - just before the USSR dissolved. World events in the last 14 years has only confirmed my opinion.)
