I just really like it here and as for the Netherlands- it's a wonderful country. They prove that Liberalism and Socialism can go hand in hand.

Are you trying to say that America is also a country where Liberalism and socialism go hand in hand? or are you trying to say that America is better then those countries?

If the seccond alternative applies to you, I have to ask you: have you ever been to England or the Netherlands for any longer lenght of time?

If I won the lottery and could move anywhere then I would stay in the UK.

I would prefer to live in Somerset but my wife would prefer Chester. Oh well, if I was rich I would buy a house in both.

Its always nice to visit other countries and when you are there you do tend to spot the positives of that country over your own but at the end of the day its always nice to get back home.

I like hot sunny places but I am more suited to British weather, there is nothing better than walking down a street in the rain. The rain keeps people off the street, cleans the air and feels refreshing.

I would have liked to have visited the US at least once but after reading about all the crap you have to go through just to get in then I don't think I'll bother now. Maybe visit Canada instead.

Well I'm Swedish, so of course I have to say Sweden...

But i don't really have any other countries to compare to since I haven't lived in any other country...

But from the little I've experienced from my travels through Europe I can say that the other Scandinavian countries seem ok to live in, England was kind of nice but a bit to "grey" (Have only been to London) and rainy for my taste, France seems pretty ok too (But I still don't think I would want to live there) and Italy as well (only that I don't like the Mediterranean climate)

If we go down the winning lottery road. The UK six months of the year. Greece (Rhodes in a little village I know) for a month each year, two months in Canada (Vancouver area), One month each year touring the US, the Anzac nations for a month and the rest of the time doing bit of the rest of the world.
But I think after doing that for a few years I would stick with the UK and Canada with the odd holiday to the sunny parts of Europe.

Switzerland. Mainly because Swiss military/foreign policy is the exact polar opposite of my own county of origin. Armed neutrality...the Swiss have had it down for over 700 years. What's taking the rest of us so long?

I'm not to thrilled about the idea of conscription for all male citizens, but I wonder what role the actual law plays in that issue in Switzerland. Is military service a very strong cultural value there and making it required my law is simply a technicality, or does conscription there really rely on government coersion in order to exist?

Like everyone else, I'm going with my homeland, Australia. I have travelled a bit, lived in the UK for 8 months (saw a fair bit of Europe) and I'm in China till July (been here since Febuarary). Travelling is great, I love seeing new things, meeting very different people (and trying to communicate with them) and getting a better perspective of the world. But, I must admit, it is a great feeling stepping off the plane in Melbourne and knowing I'm home again, everything is familar, I just feel relaxed.

In Australia either Melbourne, Perth or Margaret River.

Outside of Australia I'd probably choose Sweden, I like their way of doing things. If not Sweden, the UK, they speak the same language, aren't too right wing, the pub food was really good (except the steak) and I have a fair bit of family there. Devon and Cornwall are awesome places. Could use some better beaches though . . . .

Great beaches up here (Northumberland) but it's brass monkey weather so you have to be pretty hardy to surf or swim.
I love to travel but when you come home and see the Tyne bridge you know your home.
One thing though, every where I've been I can still get a taste of home (Newcastle Brown Ale, must be bottled though).

It's too bad the only Aussie beer I can get my hands on abroad is the crappiest out of the lot, Fosters, give me a VB anyday! It's easier to get Fosters in pubs in England than it is in Australia. English pubs, they're good too. Maybe a toss up between the south west of England (sorry, the north wasn't bad though, I just really liked the south west of England) and Sweden.

I think it would just have to be England despite the weather. It is my home and I feel most comfortable there, but I couldn't stay there all year I need to travel, seeing new places really expands your horizons. I would also like to live in Canada, New Zealand and Africa (Uganda for some reason it has always appealed) but only for a short time.

#1 New York, New York, United States of America.
#2 Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America.

I would like to live in European cities for a while. Berlin, London, maybe Paris... I'd love to go up to Scandinavia. The highest proportion of tall blondes in the world! I could work my magic all day long. :) If language weren't a barrier, I'd like to live in most major world cities for at least a short while.

American food isn't bad, it's just that pretty much the only food to be found in suburbia is garbage. Unless one knows one of those hole-in-the-wall places. The more urbanized a place is though, the better luck you'll have with finding decent food. Though it'll probably be too damned expensive. That's one thing I really don't like about America, eating out consumes too much freakin' money considering the quality of food one is usually served. McDonald's sucks donkey balls, as do all other fast food places except for pizza joints. McDonald's shouldn't even be classified as food, really. It's just overpriced cardboard gruel..

Either right here in the UK or in the Netherlands.

I just really like it here and as for the Netherlands- it's a wonderful country. They prove that Liberalism and Socialism can go hand in hand. ever been to america?

ever been to australia mate

its the best sunshine all the time beachs its just sick mate
I agree but there is more to Australia like it has never had war on it's soil, it has democratically free, small population for a HUGE land area. Diverese climates, Unique flora and fauna, strong allies, has great cities especially Sydney.

It is just overall the greatest nation ever except of course Meulmania lol :D   :D

Wouldn't bother with London. Paris and Glasgow have a far better atmosphere. Also my home city of Newcastle.
I'd love to tour the states, I've friends over there and a californian friend here. The thing is (and don't take this to heart) many of the Americans I've met over here are best described as Arses! So that sort of puts me off, but my US friends assure me they think the same and that the vast majority are not like that. Which I know is right but God! how annoying those few are.

America would be good to visit (I have never been) but the new passport controls really put you off. As do the small, but unfortunatly vocal, number of idiot Americans. Before I get shot down in flames I know there are plenty of embarassing Brits, have you ever been to some of the Med resorts. Oh and if you are visiting Britain don't forget Manchester and Liverpool you can see what life in Britain is really like and The Lakes are beautiful.

Well, it might just be that since they're not in their own country, they think that they needn't display manners. I think it's a common characteristic of all people, not just Americans. If you want to see cities, well, you know where to go. Many parts of the USA are quite beautiful, but if you really want to experience something totally different from the UK, go West. The East is great, but it's probably too similar to the UK to make for a truly different vacation. Los Angeles, probably the only place on Earth where one can ski, surf, develop a nasty lung condition, and get stabbed all in the same day. :) The USA is absolutely immense on the human scale, take a train somewhere to get a feel for the true scale of it. I once took a train from Sacramento to Denver, Amtrak sucks, but the overall experience was great. It made me think of what the first settlers out West must have felt like..
Anyhow, what kinds of things do you like to do?

Yeah, they are stupid. It's just a waste of time and money. All of the airport 'security' is really just a smokescreen to try to fool the American public into thinking that the government is actively trying to do something. Subdued tales of law enforcement and intelligence activities would do nothing to assuage the American public's fears, so the government has to put on an air of orderliness and competence so as to increase public confidence in the government and what have you.
The money wasted on so-called airport security would be better directed at hindering terrorist networks in the first place. However, as I explained above, it's a necessary evil. The new restrictions on foreign travelers are just some of the usual idiocy that governments love to practice, I expect that they'll eventually be relaxed, probably sooner rather than later if tourism appreciably declines.

All sorts. Walk, fish, eat, drink, drink, Shoot shot guns (real guns when in Canada) walk around like a slack jawed tourist pointing at things. Oh drive, play around with cars, travel. That about sums it up. Plus all the reading and stay at home stuff.
