So early today I was flipping through the channels and on CTN wuz a rerun of Captain Planet. However this episode was very bizzare:
The Planeteers were trying to get the Israelis and Palestinians to stop fighting by somehow warping them through time, showing them a post-nuked Jerusalem, and showing them the harmful effects it would have on the environment
actually i woulda liked it if they had all stayed in post-nuked Jerusalem - it woulda made for a great spinoff series
Interesting...
[Backs away and runs]
Seriously though, is that show still on? The only episode of Captain Planet I remember was the time an evil woman and her eviler evil twin tried to build more destructive weapons than the other, to appease hitler and get in his good graces. They nuked the rainforest or something, somehow, Hitler was able to see this via an old Medieval castle in the jungle.

wow, I didn't realize they were that politically active...All I remember were uber-evil villians bent on destroying the world cause they could.
Still, Israelis and Palestinians?
I'll have to find this.
The name of the episode is "If this is doomsday, it must be belfast." It's not just Israelis and Palestinians, BTW. Here's a synopsis:
- Villians decide to prove humans really hate each other. To do this, they send 3 nukes to 3 "hot spots" around the Globe- Northern Ireland, the West Bank, and South Africa. Here's the real interesting part- there are 6 detonators. One was given to a Protestant, one to a Catholic. One to a Palestinian, and one to an Israeli settler. One to a black, and one to a white. If either one of the two presses their detonator, the bomb goes off.
So, it's up to the planeteers to stop them. Which they do by showing the six people (not just the Israeli/Palestinian "couple") what will happen if they DO detonate the bombs. It's not a pretty picture.
This is actually my favorite episode. I taped it when I was around 12 and have watched it about a dozen times since.

How candy ass. I liked the idea of promoting the whole green peace thing, but the show was god awful.

*shrug*
I preferred the ones where they actually addressed political issues aside from just being appalled and horrified at someone hurting puppies (which was an entire episode, incidentally).
