Jumping The Shark

How do you know when a General NS forum thread has 'jumped the shark'?

Or, what topics automatically jump the shark?

Just wanted to know what people think... plus this should be amusing.

Any topic involving religion has not only jumped the shark, it has driven back around the shark tank, revved it's engine and jumped the shark again just so it can say it's done it.

What do you mean by 'jump the shark,' is it getting very close to crossing the line or something?

*ahem*

Jumping the Shark refers to an episode of "Happy Days" wherein, to boost lagging ratings, Fonzie jumps a shark tank. It has now become synonymous with any attempt to increase lagging interest by introducing a pointless, tangetial or just plain stupid plot twist into the mix. For example, Bush "Jumped the Shark" when he tried to draw attention away from the war in Iraq by announcing his plan to head to the Moon and Mars.

I was thinking anything titled "I'M PROUD TO BE GAY" or "TEH PASSION OF CHRIST ROXORS" or something to that effect.

"Acknowledge God in Your Own Way" Don't get me wrong, it was a good thread idea, but people are going to start hijacking your thread and debating religion if you post something like that.

I think the moment that people start arguing over whose preferred political leader is more patriotic / has killed more foreigners, that's the moment of the shark jump. Similarly, over whose political leader prays more sincerely, and which one has lied more consistently.
