Euthanasia: How we treat our pets better than our families

While reading the Dorothy Euthanasia issue, this came into my mind..

Whenever an owner brings a pet into the vet for a check-up and finds out the dog is in pain, too old, struck with diease, etc, we allow the animal to be put to sleep, letting it die with dignity. Not making it hold out for as long as in can lay in a hospital bed, suffering, until it dies a painful death like we do with out loved ones when they are in similar situations (surgery, heart attack, cancer..).

I also happend to be watching Maurry (I think thats what it's called) where DCF (Department of Children and Families) toook away one couples son because they refused therapy for their son who may or may not have had cancer..

Do you think that people should be more realistic and allow their family members to "die with dignity"?

I'm all for it. As long as the person is willing. I think that making people hang on in agony is dark ages shit. It's like forcing people to have babies they don't want. I think euthanasia is an okay way to go, as long as you have a viable reason.

It isn't an either/or thing. You don't have to be in agony at the end. You can treat the symptoms without actively euthanizing someone.

But if a 10 year old was depressed and went to the GP asking for the old 'death needle' (or whatever they use), would you allow that?
Not everyone knows that their problem can be fixed. And even things like cancer cures, you could kill yourself and the next day they might have a cure. What then?

No, just like you don't put a dog with the hick-ups to sleep.

No, apparently dogs > humans. Dogs are not forced to suffer like humans.
