How can the british claim to have "invented" Hawaii???

They cannot really even claim to have "discovered" it, as it was populated when they arrived.

Also, you cannot "invent" chemical elements "nitrogen, oxygen, barium, potassium, sodium, strontium, calcium", although these may be discovered. Similarly for naturally-occuring chemical compounds, like carbon dioxide.
