If you mean the cause of it's eventual extinction, then yes. Introducing it to the British environment, it consumes all of the red squirrels food.
If you mean does the red squirrel exist because of the grey, then no.
The red squirrel and the grey squirrel developed seperately. The grey was introduced to Britain a couple of hundred years ago.
