Direct Connect vs. Kazaa

Both of them are p2p-sharing programs.

I know Kazaa has spyware and makes your computer crash quite often (I've experienced it).
However, I don't know about Direct Connect.
Does anyone have it? And is it safe? (lawsuits and such)

Try Replay Music

Legally safe, and it records sites like Launch Yahoo into mp3's!

Kaza doesn't have any spyware, but it does have plenty of trojans.

Use Kazaa LITE....Kazaa's spyware-less little brother.

Much better.

KaZaA Lite if you just want to grab a song quickly, Emule for older/rarer stuff and Bittorrent for all the newer releases.

No it didnt.

The whole reason Kazaa Lite was invented was to eliminate the spy-ware from the original version.

I use a firewall, Anti-virus, and Spybot..and it has never picked up anything from Kazaa Lite.

Im also a PC Tech, so I know what Im talking about.

You might have confused Kazaa with Kazaa Lite, or more likely....you picked them up from somewhere else.

and 2000 trojan programs is a awfully huge number.

Well, I just managed to download an entire album from Direct Connect with a speed of 600 kb/s
It's a damn huge network!

I've you're pretty computer-literate, try BitTorrent (http://www.suprnova.org). It lets you download everything from PS2 games to entire CDs to computer programs. I think I've pirated over $1000 worth of stuff, easily.

Mods, please don't release my IP. :P

Ive also heard good things about Bit Torrent.
never used it myself though.

Remember...while file sharing copyrighted material IS illegal.....the people they are really out to get are the ones doing the sharing.

If you dont share files..and just download them..your much safer.

It was Kazaa lite and some games I downloaded gave me a ton of Trojans.

No.

It was the games that gave you the trojans....not Kazaa Lite.

Kazaa lite does not contain any trojan programs, or Spyware.
Thats the whole point of Kazaa Lite.

Yea, bittorrent is good. It's quite liberal in the way it transfers data- You send someone, say, a megabyte, they send you one back, for another part of the file. Not very good for searching though, but leech-resistant.

btw, I use eMule occasionally, and I'd have to advise against it. On one occasion, I uploaded about 300mb, and downloaded about 40. My files were also being downloaded by people whom I'd been put on a queue.
In all fairness, I have started to get eMule working to a minor extent. When eMule isn't downloading, I limit the UL/DL speed to 1/3, then when I get a fast source, I put it to 2/6, etc. No more massive throughput bills.

I use Direct Connect, and it gets me everything I need. If you know where to look, and fill the often huge share limits you can get everything with excellent connection speeds and it has quite a community spirit too. DCPlusPlus.com is the place to get the handy GUI version.

I do not know Direct Connect. I've used Kazaa and dropped it.

For recent files (I download a lot of subbed anime series), the Torrent Network is the best, but shares tend to last very little time and torrent links are hard to find. I use Azureus BitTorrent client.

For older files (I am a fan of 80's videoclips and Abandonware), the edonkey network is way better, as links tend to last even years. I personally use the Emule client (Edonkey network). There is also the Overnet Network, evolution from the Edonkey with the difference of not depending on servers for peers to find each other, but I haven't used it.

So, if you want to get newer files, Torrent is better, but if you are on older files, Overnet or Edonkey rule.

Someone here actually recommended a Real product?

Real sucks. It has a wonderfull tenedancy to contact a host of servers for marketing purposes amongst others...oh yeah! Thats spyware! DOH!

This is a great alternative...RealAlternative (you gotta scroll down the list to find it...)

As for Kazzaaaaaaa....

It does indeed have spyware.

Lite does not but all is not well...

As for 2000 trojans...heh....I'd say someone was visiting some rather dodgy sites as well as downloading dodgy software....

Direct Connect is the best, no offense that's the way it is. But there is one little problem, you have to have 20 gig of shared files (no matter what crap) to get in at most servers there (which at least excluds me from DC).
