It's a very in-depth test. I wasn't surprised by my score. I was almost exactly in the same place as Gandhi, one of my heroes.

-5.00/-6.26

(I'm economically and socially liberal)

Take the test! It's brilliant.

Post your results. You might be surprised.

I don't particularly like this quiz. There's a whole host of questions that shouldn't have a bearing on your rating.

Regardless,

Some of the questions relate to morals. It's all about morals when you come down to it.

Yeah but I don't see how, if I think that sex outside of marraige is bad, that that means I'm any more authoritarian or economically-right wing than anyone else. It just means, in my case, that I'm religious.

These questions really don't show anything - because I'm very much a Conservative Republican but it pegged me as a lefty. Not cool - I think its only because I do think we need a well structured social support system that takes care of those who CANT take care of themselves - until they can.

I agree that it isn't a very good quiz, but it's interesting, at best. Probably a rough gauge for your politics as well, although no such quiz can be accurate...unless it's got perhaps 2500 questions.

I guessed on some questions (because I didn't know what, say, Protectionism meant), but turned out

Economic Left/Right: 0.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.62

Haha...basically nobody is where I am on the international map. However, Chopin and Tchaikosvky (spelling?) are closest for the Composer's Map....

Yeah but I don't see how, if I think that sex outside of marraige is bad, that that means I'm any more authoritarian or economically-right wing than anyone else. It just means, in my case, that I'm religious.

Perhaps the question should've been worded whether you think that sex outside of marriage should be punished.

That would more effectively give an authoritarian/libertarian reading (I took the test a long time ago and don't remember all the questions--so this might've been accounted for).

Anyhow, for the most part it seems relatively accurate.

...on the American spectrum. The spectrum presented with the quiz is European. The American center, to which the democratic candidates are to the left, is in the European statist right. Compared to the European left, American leftists are indeed very right wing.

I realize you all think that, but it's my opinion that the rest of Europe, etc., is itself way left of center. How else can you explain the rampant socialism? Just because a large number of European nations are Socialist does not mean that Socialism is any closer to the middle of the spectrum.
imported_Hamburger Buns
26-04-2004, 08:30
Well, maybe socialism *is* the middle fo the spectrum for Europeans.

In other news, I came out close to centrist, as I always do. Maybe a little more to the right than a few months ago, probably due to answering a bunch of questions "strongly disagree/agree".
