Smoking is good for society.

Think about it.
Around 2000 people a week die from smoking in the U.K. With a housing shortage this is 2000 people a week not needing homes.
Smoking increases the rate of cancer and therefore increases the spending on cancer research - saving lives in the long run.
Smoking is cool and you know it!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Jonathan Swift has left the building.

But be sure to pick up his new book, "The Joy Of Cooking With Jonathan Swift" on your way home!

Well it's good if you're a population control freak

Theoretically a good idea. But can you guarantee that 2000 people a week die? And that there houses will then be available? Also, if the 2000 people die and their houses are now available, why would you then want to find a cure for cancer because then it would just recreate the housing problem again. Wouldn't it?

And besides, WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE.

Smoking may be good in as much as you reduce the population a little.

Trouble is then there's more food for the rest of us and we all get fat and occupy the same volume as before.

Yeah, but they die slow and put a burden on your health service.

I'm not in America. I live in a much more over-crowded isle.

Yeah, but they die slow and put a burden on your health service.

Yeah but it all comes back in taxes, same goes for alcohol. I'm just waiting until cannabis gets legalised, regulated and taxed. The government'll be able to make an absolute killing on that.

If you want them to die quick remove speed limits and make murder no longer a crime. Its the people that die for no reason that scare the medicl profesion - "If only he'd smoked, we could have done something for him!"

And use the money for what? Do we support the expansion of the revenue-generating powers (and all other powers) of the government?

There's always things to spend the money on, it's just whether they're worthwhile. The govt can always spend more money on useless legislation (like public smoking bans to keep OnT) - the issue is why should we pay for the huge bureaucratic monolith?
