According to pro-lifers - just before an abortion (but not just before a miscarrage)

According to pro-choicers, just before the murder of a pregnant woman.

Actually, I am pro-choice.

Many pro-choicers want a woman to have the right to choose ... until after the baby is born. Then they have every right to interfere with whether she vaccinates her baby, what she feeds her baby, how she clothes her baby, where she houses her baby, and how she educates her baby. ~ Michael.

Umm... can you explain that? My brain hurts from it. :(

When the child is born. Otherwise, it is inferior, and does not qualify as a human being.

Life is not an either/or state.

I second what Rehochipe said and have made that my e-mail signature. Don't worry, credit you.

It is yours, right?

Unh hunh. (Aww. We're all flattered).
Pretty much nothing's an either/or state, to be fair. Admittedly, that statement's heavily informed by the Dao De Ching:

Is there a difference between yes and no?
Is there a difference between life and death?
Must I fear what others fear? What nonsense!

Life? It begins when it began, which was a very long time ago. Things have to develop into something that is recognizably alive before it can technically be classified as being alive or a life. A fetus is alive but doesn’t become a life until it’s able to function.

it's called "the LIFE cycle" for a reason; life doesn't begin, it's a constant process. a sperm and egg are alive, a zygote is alive, a fetus is alive, a baby is alive, a mature human is alive. whether or not any or all of these organisms are human persons is another matter, and quite open to debate, but nobody with a basic understanding of biology would argue that any are not alive.

Good phylosophy. These damn anti-abortion christian lunatics should feel the same way.

I'm not even going to pretend I know the answer to this. I don't know enough about the human body to make a knowledgeable answer.

Well, the baby's body is alive before birth, but the brain does become developed until after birth.

Obviously the correct answer is at birth.. but I was tempted as a mother of two to choose #3..lol :P

erm, that seems a little harsh, given that a great many orphaned children would be considered non-humans well into their teens.
