An informative link. It doesn't include a single Iraqi, civilian nor combatant.

All for the personal ambition of a few greedy poiliticians.

It's enlightning to click on the links too.

Indeed. Shame on us.

"As many as 10,000 non-combatant civilian deaths during 2003 have been reliably reported so far as a result of the US/UK-led invasion and occupation of Iraq . These reports provide figures which range between a minimum of 8,235 and a maximum of 10,079 as of Saturday 7th February 2004."

And yet its still hardly enough to register on the people-murdered-for-the-profit-of-a-few-rich-americans chart. Maybe things are actually getting better- it must be years since the people of Laos were bombed for voting the wrong way, and that used to happen..every single time they tried to have a democratic election.

Mass graves discovered following the US occupation of Iraq in 2003 suggest that the total combined figure for Kurds, Shi'ites and dissidents killed could be as high as 300,000

Beyond the borders of the USA is a great big place called "world...

Ok, now... Your "democrats" would be considered a rightwing party anywhere in Europe, and the republicans would be considered nationalist extremists. From what I hear, yanks think of europe as "democrat liberal communist".
Now...Every single country in the EU is doing better than the USA when it comes to education (you know, pointing out their countries on maps and such).
Why aren't those brainiacs in Europe voting for their local nationalist extremist parties?

Haven't you noticed the trend in Europe lately?

Marie Le Pen - 2nd place in France's last presidential Election, Jorg Haider was voted in power in Austria, in Germany being a right-wing populist is essentially non-existent because your branded as a neo-nazi. In the Netherlands, you had the Pim Fortuyn list that had a strong showing in its elections, although it fell apart after their leader was assasinated. All over Europe, these parties are becoming more and more popular.

However, in every country in the EU, how would Republicans be considered extremist nationalist right-wingers? What about Ireland? They have lower taxes and, IIRC, abortion is outright banned there.

The European system of education is generally better only through Primary and Secondary education, while the universities, especially private ones, in the USA are on par or better than most European universities. People without a high-school education usually vote Democrat.

America is also not Europe. There's different societies. To directly transfer American parties to European parties is a cheapshot. The culture is totally different, traditions, religion, and history all have a different roles between America and Europe.

I'm educated. I live in America. If I could vote, I would vote Democrat. Most of my educated friends, who come from a mixture of political backgrounds, would and do vote Democrat. More college graduates vote Democrat than Republican (and are also more likely to take liberal views on social issues, like gay marriage). Please explain to me again how it is that educated people vote Republican?

OOC: In the course of your bickering about a man & a war you don't agree with, you neglect our brothers & sisters out on the front lines, fighting & dying for people they've never met & will never see again. Bash the man all you want, just not the troops. Support them even if you don't support what they're doing.

I support the royal ass-kicking of Saddam, and the fight to end the suffering of thousands of people at his manical hands. If you want to see real squabbling for personal ambition, look at the upcoming election. Kerry agrees with everyone he meets, even if they don't agree with the person he just agreed with. Bush is doing what he thinks is best for the country & the world. There's nothing wrong with that.

By the way, where these civie deaths the result of friendly fire on the part of the US troops, or the Iraqi police? Perhaps Saddam's guerillas that are picking off our countrymen as we speak are responsible?

War is hell. People die. End of story.

Ah, but you see, none of those guys got in charge. And this is not a growing trend anymore.

European system of education makes sure people know where they are and ensures that people in general aren't drooling idiots that think the capitol building of Canada is an igloo...

Ah, try forcing the patriot act on people in Ireland and see how they'd take it. And after that let's sell some assault rifles there.
If Ireland were under the rule of nationalists it would be waging a war against Britain right now...

I realize that Europe and the USA are different, like you point out. But I'd say Sweden and Spain are even more different from each other than USA and France... So I don't see why there can't be a comparison?

Vote by Education
No H.S. Degree : Gore 59%, Bush 39%, Buchanan 1%, Nader 1%
High School Graduate : Gore 48%, Bush 49%, Buchanan 1%, Nader 1%
Some College : Gore 45%, Bush 51%, Nader 3% (32% of Electorate)
College Graduate : Gore 45%, Bush 51%, Nader 3% (24% of Electorate)

Conclusion : More college graduates vote Republican than Democrat, while a huge majority of HS dropouts (20%!) vote Democrat.

Still is. Haider is resurgent in Austria while xenophobia is still there in places like Denmark, the Netherlands, and France. Instead of being simply a trend like people dismissed it as, they are now actual political forces. And some of those guys did get in charge. Due to Europe's electoral system, coalition governments commonly happen. Austria's Freedom Party got into power there, Italy's Northern Alliance (I believe thats what it's called) got into power there, heck Switzerland's "Right wing nationalists" are now their biggest party, I think. (and consequently has 2 of its 7 cabinet seats).

European system of education makes sure people know where they are and ensures that people in general aren't drooling idiots that think the capitol building of Canada is an igloo...
It has some glaring bad spots though. How about smoking? European rates of smoking are much higher than those in America now, and smoking is a proven factor of multiple types of death. Geography is America's worst spot. Although I'd like to see a poll if the majority of people think the capitol building of Canada is an igloo (or if its just another worthless stereotype).

I disagree. Europe on the whole is vastly less religious than the USA, one example. Spain and Sweden are different. Both, however, are closer to each other than they are to the USA, I'd say. The fact that Democrats would be considered right-wingers in most parts of Europe, while right/left parties in Europe can have much less disparity (all the Green parties in the EU are running a coordinated campaign this year, I think).

This trend is a problem, I'll admit, but it's not increasing anymore. And well, I'm pretty sure that if we looked at the numbers, it's not the "educated elite" that is voting for those parties.

So people smoke in Europe...They still know the names of their politcal leaders...oh...and they read books too.
Geography isn't the only bad spot...Current events too.
An American congressman was caught on tape congratulating Canada on perserving it's national igloo.

Sweden and Spain are not just different, they are really really different. And I still think France has quite a few things in common with the USA, both countries are founded on similar principles and share much cultural background.

In any case, I dont really like either party. The Republicans are, as has been said, not exactly the best people on the planet, and while I agree with the Democrats on a number of topics, I despise John Kerry yet more than Bush.

They go with whats popular. They are like children they take the easy route. Bush was in a very tough spot and made a good disicion. What would gore have done? NOTHING!!! HIDE IN THE CLOSET.

If only we could convince all of the other. :)

I must also say though, that the intellagence sucked and i agree with the investigation. Kerry voted for the war...now he against..... kerry was against abortion....now he is pro choice.....Kerry was a hero and served his country....then spoke against it all....yet still says he a hero.... Kerry is a corrupted senator....just like edwards, kenuicne (spelling), Leaberman. Dean would have been a prime choice but his veiws scared the dems.

Freedom isn't free... People will die in war. If you look at the vote to go to war in iraq i do believe the democrats voted for it. Then it went alittle down hill and they turned their backs. Bush has made mistakes.... Every president does. I don't like the fact that people sit around and say that ohh we shouldn't be involved in the middle east but then say they care about the way people are treated. My brother is in Iraq. That is a real mature way to handle a poltical conversation. You can't defend your beliefs so you belittle others. Who the idiot? Who is Stupid? Who is the Basterd? If you can't take the heat then take a walk. That was highly inappropriate is downright ingorant just like she said. If you don't agree tell us why.

If Ireland were under the rule of nationalists it would be waging a war against Britain right now...

Ever heard of the IRA? That's right......

And regarding more educated people vote Bush....consider that the majority of people being educated are middle to upper class white kids. You're rich; you like your money. Bush won't tax the hell out of you, so of course you're going to elect him. Isn't his policy great? The country is in debt, and the tax cuts keep rolling. For the rich at least.

It doesn't matter who elected him anway. He was elected, and those who voted for him will be feeling the backlash. Republican policy has its perks I'm sure (as hard as they are to find), but dragging a nation out of debt isn't one of its stronger suits. It seems foreign policy isn't either.

Now, That seriously offended me....Please i don't know if you are kidding or what but leave my brother out of this. I really don't appreciate that. I have apologized for my comments. Please do not put my brother down like that. He could die fighting for freedom and you are sitting on your ass typing at a computer belittling him. That is wrong. Please just don't talk about my brother.

 For freedom...

I'm not putting your brother down
But: lets get one thing straight: this is a war that not everyone agrees with. Too bad. It's not MY petrol your brother is fighting for... It's YOURS. So, naturally I have as much sympathy for your brother as anyone else being shot at/shooting at somone in a desert for no logical reason.

Sorry, but your "patriotism" is only effective on Americans...

Just ignore Tumaania Haven14.

Yes, he's mean and "un-patriotic"

I'm done with you.

Why should I have more sympathy for Americans than anyone else?

If Ireland were under the rule of nationalists it would be waging a war against Britain right now...

Ever heard of the IRA? That's right......

There's different degrees of nationalism, boy.

Not everyone who calls themselves a Nationalist is as extreme as say the IRA. To say that the Republicans are like the IRA is stupidity to the 10th degree.

More college graduates do indeed vote democrat - for about the first 10 years after leaving college. College in the US - particularly the liberal arts - is little more than liberal indoctrination. The fact that kids sometimes enter college conservative and leave liberal is not a testament, as the left believes, to education being a broadening of the mind - it's a condemnation of a system that brainwashes and narrows the outlook almost from day one.

Generally, it take about 10 years to see through the miasma of college political correctness. By then, many people have families and understand that liberal utopianism concerning high taxes and affirmative action (racial quotas) and abortion-on-demand and all the rest of the left-wing college agenda is just for idealistic kids, for example the adolescents who so eagerly believed in Howard Dean.

Really, faced with the exigencies of the real world, many grads drop liberalism. Some sad types continue to profess the "true faith" - many of them of course end up back in academia as professors, so continuing the cycle of indoctrination, or get jobs in the media, to all our detriment - but most people grow up.

Shi'ite mullahs, diehard Ba'athists and foriegn terrorists are why noone, even Iraqis are safe in Iraq. Blaming this on Americans is like blaming Brittain for the IRA. If you could point out a difference I'd love to see it. In short, Americans, not alone mind you, regardless of how much Europeans like to say and believe that, and Brits and Pols And Japanese amoung others are being shot at because they are the only thing, in the mind of those doing the attacking, standing between these various groups and being the rulers of Iraq, not just participants in a democratic government in Iraq.

it not only confuses me, but it amuses me that people use the word "liberal" as some kind of insult. Liberal just means a person who wants more freedom, more equality, and peace. I am proud to say I am a liberal. I am educated in America, yet my European upbringing at home has helped me to withstand the brainwashing. Doesn't anyone realize that the pledge of allegiance is pressed on small children with impressionable minds? I remember being given a lecture in the second grade about how bad communism and socialism are. How can we know it is so bad? Nobody has even carried out Marx's plans yet! If Americans would learn to think for themselves rather than be told what to do, the country would be a lot better off.

To become centrists, yes?

Sure, why not. Anything but some liberal nut ranting and raving about how great Cuba is because it provides free health care and education (free if you're a party member of course, and substandard by any criteria, and in a system that denies democracy of any type), or calling for abortion rights until the last possible second, or for reparations, or against all types of war even in defense of our own country, and all the other things that mark out academia as the haven of left-wing extremism.

One of the people who was involved in Poland's Solidarity in the 70's was a visiting lecturer in my college in the early 90's and was truly amazed by the leftism on display. For him, it was almost like a return to his own college days under communism. Our college was so regimented in its unwavering adherence to leftist cultural, economic, and social mores. But in Poland, the state had mandated far-left educational policies. There was nothing to be done. In America, conservatives/moderates send their kids off to be brainwashed through choice. I think he found it extraordinary that parents would spend tens of thousands of dollars to have their children indoctrinated with values that are often completely at odds with their parents' values, and might even make them hate them...

Nobody has carried out Marx's plans yet, he writes. Hmmmm..... Since 1917 more than 40 regimes have murdered millions of people in the name of Marxism, and equality. Marxism was the root cause of this, without that philosophy that would never have happened.

People are so naive. How many times do liberals say "But real communism has never been tried yet?" How many dead bodies have to be accumulated before we find real communism? This is exactly what I refer to when I talk about infantile leftistm. Some people *really" never grow up.

You know, I'm not asking you to agree with this, as I'm not sure I do myself, but a fair few political thinkers reckon that the main reason communism hasn't worked and can't- at present- work, is that humanity hasn't grown up yet. Just an ironic little titbit.

Ah well, I'm going to be philosophical about the war- at least, although it's been a nightmare, it does seem to have stopped Bush wittering on about the Axis of Evil and Wars on Terrorism- presumably because he's learned a bit of realpolitik, and maybe his advisors have finally explained to him that his plan's logically impossible? All right, optimistic... but I live in hope.

I, too, believe that children in America are too greatly indoctrinated with propaganda of one form or another. Childern today are taught what to believe by the government even in this day and age. The Cold War era anti-communist, -socialist, and -liberal movement fostered by Reagan was especially bad. In fact, I was scolded by numerous teachers for refusing to recite the line "under god". I was even berated by a faculty member for wearing a Che Guevara T-shirt. He called me a "communist hippy". At any rate, Iis is not right for the government to use its power to indoctrinate the youth according to its whims.

Oh boy, oh boy. No, it's really, really terrible to condemn a student for wearing a Che T-shirt. I mean, diabolical!!!! Never mind that Che helped set up a system in Cuba that has killed thousands of people and sent tens of thousands of other to politcal prison camps, or that he approved of the murder of the middle classes if they didn't accord to his idea of revolution, or that he was an admirer of Mao, who murdered millions of people. Maybe if you would stop using a dictonary to describe Liberalism and started paying attention to what their beliefs are, their affect on the world and why Conersvative are against them, you would understand why Liberal is an Insult, But you will never do that.v

Communism is not bad? HAHAHA!!!! I guess the Soviet Union, Cuba and China are not not really communist then? But they are, face it, Communism is bad, and if you did some research on the subject instead of letting some European newspaper tell you about it, you MIGHT not like it so much.
