The Ghetto Culture is ignorant.

I hate Ghetto people. These people, mostly African-American, act ignorant on purpose because they think that it is "cool". In reality it's not cool. My idea of "cool" is long hair and a mellow attitude about life. (I'm not a hippie, i'm not gay, and I am a male.) I'm not racist or anything like that, cause there are black people, few but some, that act like "normal" human beings. Normal being not ignorant and stupid in order to act cool. Please share your views and feel free to argue with me. And please point out if you feel that I am being ignorant, which I may be, but not because I think that it is cool.

I think this applies more to middle class suburban kids who think they're from the Ghetto. You know the ones who make an effort to speak anything but propper english, talk about how much they like drugs and how high they are. Maybe even post on Nationstates in that regard, not like anybody we know here though...

Japacia, you fail to make a distinction between the Ghetto culture and the "Ghetto" culture. People who live in a real Ghetto have to practically fight for their lives!! There are so many great people today who had to grow up in such horrid conditions.

However, a "Ghetto" culture has been growing here. It is made up of mostly spoiled little rich brats who act like they're seriously "Ghetto" and "gangsta" (I should know, I live in a well-off town and TONS of the kids here act that way). But hey, if they keep actin this way they'll prolly get shot when they wander into a REAL ghetto

Oh and even though I don't like the "ghetto" culture, there's a little thing here called FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION!!!

i totaly agree with this

to Japaica:
saying that you are not racist may not be correct.
and if you have a problem with the way "cool" is now, do you think you can do anythng about it. let it go, kids are kids, people will act the way they do, and there is nothing really wrong about that, its not hurting anyone.

What makes you think they are 'acting' ignorant? Also, you are more than likely even more ignorant about their culture than they are about yours.

My idea of "cool" is long hair and a mellow attitude about life.

That's a very valid definition of cool, but its no more valid than the ghetto definition of cool. Yours is simply slightly less onerous to the establishment, and rather vague.

I'm not racist or anything like that, cause there are black people, few but some, that act like "normal" human beings. Normal being not ignorant and stupid in order to act cool.

Wow! Umm...normal...hahahahahahahaha! Define 'normal' in a more specific manner please. What behaviors are normal? Speaking "proper" English and wearing nice clothes from Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, and Hollister? Getting drunk because you can't stand your horrible life of privilege? Those behaviors are quite common, but I sure wouldn't call them normal.

Please share your views and feel free to argue with me. And please point out if you feel that I am being ignorant, which I may be, but not because I think that it is cool.

Well, at least you are willing to let people argue with you. You have potential there. :)

A guide for the perplexed:

A way of addressing the issue without trolling, and also widening it out to cover more than just American black ghetto culture, would be to ask:

"What are people's views on working class anti-intellectualism?"

I should have specified. This is exactly what I meant. I am not reffering to people who live in the ghetto. I am reffering to middle class suburban kids who have embraced the ghetto culture.

It's not racist because this idiotic culture doesn't involve a certain type of person. It's open to everyone. It promotes ignorance. If more rappers could rap more intelligently then I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's just that a lot of them (especially in the south) rap about bitches and hoes and getting money, when in reality they possess poor control of the English language and probably don't read much. It doesn't promote or portray advancement.

Cracker, please! As objectionable as the content of much of that genre of rap is, a lot of it displays a great deal of eloquence.

I'm not particularly fond of anti-intellectualism. However, when kids are under excessive peer pressure to behave that way, you really can't blame them. Nobody likes to be a pariah.

It's just too much isn't it, to live and let live. Why don't some people get on with their lives and stop bitching about others?

It promotes ignorance.

Nah. It promotes a type of knowledge that the dominant society doesn't value.

If more rappers could rap more intelligently then I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Same goes for country, techno, rock, pop, etc. right?

It's just that a lot of them (especially in the south) rap about bitches and hoes and getting money,

True. I don't know why you mentioned the South in particular, thats largely true of all the regions.

when in reality they possess poor control of the English language and probably don't read much.

Do you realize that AAVE is more complex than SAE?

(AAVE=African American Vernacular English)
(SAE=Standard American English)

It doesn't promote or portray advancement.

Neither does classical music by my standards. I suppose we should get rid of it then, or change it so that it portrays 'advancement'.
