Happy St Georges day to all my fellow Englishmen/women . Shame were not all given the day off to go & sit in the pub, have a pint & moan about the wonderfulness of being English ! :D

How come we don't celebrate properly like the Irish, Welsh & Scotch?

*Raises a glass & toasts..*

What, the English need an excuse to get drunk now? Just hit the pub and do your British drinking thing...

And do you know the best bit? We can openly participate in the festivities from the age of 18. :D Not just any country in the world can boast that level of Freedom. :D

I dunno, there's good or bad things about 'The English'. I'm not massively patriotic, because thats silly. I mean, I like warm beer, pipe smoking and tweeds. But I also like other countries. I think patriotism is a bit silly and causes lots of nasty things. As for St George- how silly. He was Eastern Mediterranean and fought the dragon in North Africa. Hardly English. And he's religious, which prohibits all those who aren't Christian from celebrating. Ithink we should celebrate other cool British people though. Like Darwin, Bertrand Russell and Lord Winston, people like that.

But by your logic we religious types would be prohibited from celebrating Bertrand Russell then, right?

Which brings us precisely to the conclusion that heroism is relative. So the idea of a constant 'hero' for a nation that is constantly changing is bizarre. The point I was making was that you're automatically alienating 94% of the population who aren't Anglican.

So did I. I wrote my own essay question about 9 months ago, and, ironically for the day I wrote the actual essay, the title was 'How significant has Fascism been in Britain since World War Two?'

How do you think it went?
My exam was on Partial Differential Equations, Fourier Series, Two Variable Calculus and Statistics....man, that list looks scary
Just been told my already unbelievably high workload is going to increase hugely in preparation for the proper exams at the end of term
but I'm an eternal optimist...so, hey life is good!

That's our national flag, but you missed out the 'CLASSY' in the middle.

Wot ho people, I too am from the land of Eng. I for one would not be able to celebrate a St. Lord Winston's Day; he hasn't got a beard. I'd be relegated to the far less scientifically important chap called Darwin  Plus I don't drink.

And to the people saying 'St. George was Turkish! You're 'avin' a larf aincher!'... St. Patrick was French. Let's make all the Irish people put their Guinness away on Paddy's day  And not in their stomachs either..

Well, Saint George is also the patron of the Catalan people. We have even a special tradition on this day: couples give each other a present, he gives her a rose an she gives him a book.

it is our equivalent to Saint Valentine's day, but with a more.. practical twist.

It was ok, actually. I was given 9 months to write personal notes, and I started them the day before. I suck like that. But I finished, and felt I did ok. Some good conclusions- basically, the fascists make a big publicity impact but little political effect, and they're basically just idiots who like dressing up in uniforms.

Except the BNP. The BNP really are nasty b*stards....
