Private places for smokers?

Personally, i loathe smoking. it smells foul, and destroys your body. If you want to kill yourself slowly and addictively, i won't stop you, however, I don't feel it fair that smokers are allowed to spread their disgusting fumes in public. there should be areas (preferably sealed, with their own air supply) where smokers are allowed to go. You made a choice to smoke, fine, just don't inflict it on the rest of us.

is it really that bad? I mean honestly is it offensive to have to breathe in a passing whiff of smoke from someone on the street? just deal with it. don't get all oppressive and lock them in rooms with their own air supply.

It's disgusting, it smells bad, makes me cough, pollutes the air... and if I'm around it for too long, it becomes second-hand smoke.

Just ignore the weirdo anti-smoker lobby, they are going over the top as usual.

I would ban it from anywhere that serves food.
Nothing worse than eating with smoke in your face.
Tolerate it in pubs as its part of the ambiance.

Hey, I've seen some things that would make you pull out your eyes in disgust, due to people smoking too much.

I spent nearly two years working weekends and a few odd night in a pub, where the smoke was blue, and hung visibly in the air. It was an old-fashioned working man's pub, so there were as many pipes and cigars there as cigarettes. After a few hours there, I would come home stinking of the most foul odour. To smokers everywhere, I say, [CENSORED]. I am glad your rights to smoke in public are being eroded, and look forward to the day when they fade away to nothing. If it's a personal choice, do it on your own property.

I spent a year in Middlesex hospital where the lung cancer victims spend there last weeks. I shudder to tell more.

I work in a place where smoking has not been banned yet, and personally, I hate it. The stench is absolutly horrendous when a lot of people are smoking at the same time. When this happens, after my shift, I go home smelling like cigarettes and I have to was my shirt because of it. I personally don't mind a smoker or even smoking every once a long time, but when there are a lot of people smoking in a closed place, it does get really horrible for non-smokers who are in there.
I smoke, therefore I cant really have any defence as I am already considered the 'bad' guy (well, girl), probably by the majority on here & in the world generally. However, whilst I agree with a general ban on smoking in public places (although Please NOT pubs!), I can't see how you can ban smoking outdoors. I have heard of this being bandied around. Surely you can't be breathing in my smoke if I'm stood outside having a puff? If you were, then I am sure it wouldn't effect you - there's plenty of other rubbish you are breathing in (carbon-monoxide etc etc). Sure ban smoking in public places - most have already - but please let us breathe what we want outside in the 'fresh' air.
Thank you.

Yes but there's taking things too far and becoming an anti smoking Nazi. Like you, I would prefer to eat in a smoke free environment. To be honest, I'd like the choice to drink in a smoke free environment too but I would draw the line at the insane proposals : "make smokers pay extra for health treatment", "smokers should only be allowed to smoke on their own private property" because it's not as if the streets are smelly and polluted enough already with car exhausts and the random filth that people just leave lying about the place and it's not as if smokers are taxed to the extent that, what with their shortened life span, they aren't net contributors to the state coffers.

On topic: I don't like smoking, but it is a personal choice, and there are quite a lot of restrictions on where you're allowed to smoke already, in consideration for other people. Its not that big a deal. The thing that I really don't like is the anti-smoking nazis who start waving their hand in front of their nose and coughing dramaticly when someone lights up. It really does show just as little consideration and tolerance for other people as smoking itself.

Just last weekend I went to Vegas and walked thru a Casino to get to my room and all I could smell was smoke.
It's disgusintg and i felt the attack on my lungs almost instantly. I felt so sorry for those blackjack dealers as I watched people blow their smoke directly in their faces without a bit of concern it seemed.
I was impressed by one lady who held her cigarette behind her and turned to smoke her cancerstick and blew it away from the dealer. What a nice gal.
If smokers think that non-smokers cough around smoke just to be pests, then you are dead wrong. Maybe some people do but I for one actually need to cough. I don't want that crap in my lungs. I choose not to smoke because I DON't Want cancer. Go figure.

I am always careful not to critise others views and can only go by what I have learnt and seen. (so don't compaire me to a Nazi).
What I have seen though stopped me from smoking cold and I am sure it would stop most people likewise.
I am well aware of the issues of air pollution - its part of my job. But this is a completely different subject. Yes both affect the lungs but its wrong to say one thing can be done as the other is there.
For example its okay to put chemical waste in the sea as its already polluted with sewage? Equally rediculous.
If smokers thing that non-smokers cough around smoke just to be pests, then you are dead wrong. I don't think that they do it just to do that, but some do. I have no problem with the people who cough genuinely.

Naw, not comparing you to a Nazi, comparing AS and CC to anti smoking nazis...
What I'm asking is rather, why is it a basic right for a human being to be able to drive their car 100 yards down the road to the gym that can never be challenged without being called a hippy whereas it's perfectly acceptable to accuse smokers on the street of giving all pedestrians cancer?
If smokers thing that non-smokers cough around smoke just to be pests, then you are dead wrong. I don't think that they do it just to do that, but some do. I have no problem with the people who cough genuinely.
Yes... as long as they're really suffering, that's OK. Anyway, think of all the second-hand suaveness and savoir-faire they're absorbing off us. Do we get a word of thanks? :)
I smoke, and I try not to annoy other people with it. I don't drive a car, though, so in terms of air pollution and public carcinogen production I'm not nearly so obnoxious as the motoring brigade. I'll agree to only smoke in the comfort of my own home when they agree to keep their nasty, smelly, biggest-cause-of-premature-death-by-such-a-long-way-you-wouldn't-believe-it machines indoors too.

It can be annoying to encounter it on the street although I don't think it should be banned there.
But maybe some outdoor areas it should, ya know? Like say you are standing in line for a movie or another line or in some crowd where moving around isn't so easy.
It is litereally nausiating. Smokers... dont you find some thing literally nausiating that you wish could be moved out of smelling or viewing distance?

Yup... Conservatives, Celtic and Rangers fans, abattoirs, drunks, car stereos that go up to 11, cars, the British monarchy ... a whole bunch of stuff. But somehow I manage to put up with it all. Although, without an occasional calming ciggie, who knows? I might erupt in an inferno of violence that would panic the nation.
If you work in a pub and don't like the fact people smoke get another freak'n job.
