I was listening to BBC Radio 4's 'Womans Hour' today and there was fascinating section on Prime Minister Zapatero's policies on womens , and gay, rights. I can't get a transcript, unfortunately, but here's the site if you want to listen-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womanshour/2004_16_tue_04.shtml

It was fascinating how liberal he was. He's intending to legalise gay marriage, introduce anti-domestic-violence legislation and allow women equal succesion rights to the Spanish Throne. He's stated he wants to eliminate 'machismo' from Spanish society. I think that this is a massive leap forwards for such a religious country, especially one where women suffered for so long under Franco. I think it should be applauded. Even the new Deputy Prime Minister is a woman.

Of course, I also like him because one of his colleagues called Blair "un gilipollas integral" (a complete dickhead ) :D

He can like it, he's in it.
I don't know if I like Europe or not, but having half my in laws made redundant because of the Common fisheries policy may be colouring my judgement.
I like you, and you like Europe.
I love to argue/ discuss, it's a quick way to learn things I never knew.

Debate rocks. Of course, Spain and us have exactly the same standing in Europe. The UK IS part of Europe, just Spain has grabbed the bull by the balls and thrown itself whole heartedly into the affair, and as such has more power amongst fellow Europeans.

Of course they bloody have, so would I if we got that much money from them. In fact they get about as much as the difference btween what we put in and what we get.

I'm encouraged by this. Recent European elections have displayed a disturbing swing to the right (and the far-right as well).

I've just finished a big piece of work of the BNP. Total idiots, cruel and immature and childish. But not powerful, which is good.

I wish that was true. But it's not. Spain is hardly religious anymore. :(

And plus, just because it is religious does not mean that it is/was against religion.
