No big deal, right? And I agree--it's just the way this particular employee decided to make his or her statement that I appreciate.

A rough translation of the French at the bottom of the tag is "We're sorry our President is an idiot. We didn't vote for him."

You can read more about the story here. (http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/2004_04_11_dneiwert_archive.html#108222740236409341)

The good news? The president of the company isn't an asshole and isn't going to start a witch hunt to discover who did it. I don't know if there's any bad news--the Freepers are trying to organize a boycott, but that's their right. What that would prove is beyond me, but hey, let them have their fun.

Is Tom Bihn some big company or what? Here's their website. (http://tombihn.com/) They apparently make laptop bags, briefcases and the like. I don't know how big they are as a company, but their prices seem about average for the industry at first glance.

 Oh man, this is hilarious. The company says it was a joke about the president of the company, not some other unnamed president.Yeah--I saw that. But considering that the French mentions voting and I doubt anyone voted for the presidency of Tom Bihn Inc., that sounds more like public relations spin to me than anything else.

What's a freeper?A Freeper is an inhabitant of the Free Republic message boards--and that's their name for themselves, not something derogatory made up by people who disagree with them. They tend toward the extreme of the Republican party.

From the website: "all the profits from sales of this shirt will be donated to the Seattle Vet Center to benefit their Homeless Vet Program."

I assume they're talking about veterans since I don't imagine that Seattle is yet suffering from the crush of homeless veterinarians that has begun to plague this land.

In both places, I feel comfortable knowing that even amongst the liberals and protestors, Mormons are still the second largest religion here :)

The more I read, the better this gets--the t-shirts themselves are made in the US by a company named American Apparel. When was the last time you saw a t-shirt made in the US? This is a hippie's wet dream.

I have a UN T-shirt made in Mexico, by a Canadian company noted for its high labour standards. The US has been bypassed.

It's a shame, because there are all sorts of people who would be more than happy for the jobs here, but corporations are generally only concerned with profit, and if you can get a Honduran to make a shirt for two bucks a day, then they'll do it.

That the south is some kind of shithole and that only California keeps it from being the 9th level of hell? I'm from the south and until last September had lived there my entire life. And I'm in California now, and it's pretty damn nice. It's a bit expensive, but it's still nice.

Its kinda hard to leave when you have no job.Got a car? Do day labor and get money for gas. If you don't have a car, do day labor until you've got money for a bus ticket. Or find a way to go to school and get student loans and use them to go somewhere else. Regardless--do something. I've got two degrees and you know how I make the bills? (My fellowship pays me just enough to starve.) I park cars for a valet company, and it ain't easy to find work in San Francisco right now, let me tell you. But if you're determined you can get it done.

Thats not shocking, San Francisco is the worst city in America. Are you just trying to be a dick? San Francisco is a wonderful city and I love it here. The economy is bad all over, in case you haven't noticed. At least here you can bet that if you have a job, you'll be doing considerably better than the federal minimum wage. Minimum wage here is $8.50/hr.
