NHL playoffs

Figured i'd get a playoff thread going
Go habs man, my boys are gonna beat the bruins in 7
Koivu is 4th in the league in points, 1st in assists
Kovalev leads in goals
Theodore is leading goalies in points, as well as most of the bruins (including thornton, who's been a big fat zero)
Go habs go!

Each Canadiens player has re-enacted the death scene from Othello every time they get touched by a Bruins player. They're playing like a bunch of pansies who are afraid to get hit. It's hockey for Christ's sake. Ribiero deserves to have his leg broken after the Oscar-worthy performance. And Kovalev should be kicked off the team after his antics in game 4 cost you guys the victory.

They have to get past the Devils first. They'll probably do that. But, as much as I don't want to admit it, the Lightning are looking pretty flawless so far. St. Louis looks as if he's able to score at will (did you see that overtime goal in Game 5?), and Khabibulin looks like a steel wall. With Detroit struggling with the Preds, it looks like it's Tampa Bay's Cup to lose now.

Ribero will learn, but accusing the whole team of dives..come on
Zednik was crosschecked in the head, Thornton suckerpunched Markov
The bruins should stop playing like such goons, its embarassing.

Bah, Bruins-Habs is a rivalry series, so of course there's going to be some rough play, though I don't know what the hell was going on in that OT in game 4.

Not that it matters, the Cup is going back to its rightful home in Hockeytown USA anyway.

Toronto will get by the Sens!

The cup belongs in Canada, in montreal to be exact.

Theodore has a rough series. If he played like raycroft has, the habs would have already ended the series.

And if his defense backed him up instead of running into each other...

That said, the Cup will stay within the Original Six, yes, but not Montreal. 7-seeds don't win it all. 5-seeds maybe, but not 7-seeds.

Which original 6, every team this year has massive wholes
Boston = raycroft may not bounce back from game 5, thornton's been crap
Montreal: too small, but if theo gets his game going...
Detroit: shady goaltending situation, old injured players
Toronto: see detroit

the other ones didn't make it.

It was a smsall group that booed, not the whole freaking country. And people forget, 2 years ago, when this started, it was in response to bruins fans doing it games 1 and 2. People just kept doing it since then.

As a Montreal fan, I have to say I'm happy to see that the Habs have pushed it to Seven. If they can win the series after losing 3-1, I'd say that would be a big enough accomplishment to validate their golfing season.

If we're talking about the best team in the NHL, it clearly has to be Ottawa. Unfortunately for the Sens, there is only one team in the league they really struggle against and that just happens to be the Toronto Maple Leafs. Oh, and for all you Leaf fans thinking the... ummm... 37 year cup drought will end, you guys will probably have Philly lined up in the second round.

As for Gantack, are you on crack? The Flames are beating up on a team without their best player (Todd Bertuzzi) a third-string goaltender. Calgary has done pretty well against Detroit this year, so facing the Wings shouldn't be muc of a problem for them. Fortunately for the Flames, the West is weak enough that they might just make a run to the Stanley Cup finals before getting raped by which ever Eastern Conference team who awaits them.

Also -- How come Detroit is Hockeytown? I mean, when the most popular franchises in a city are in this order Lions, Pistons, Tigers, Red Wings; how can you be considered a Hockeytown? More importantly what does that make Montreal or Toronto; Hockeyshrines? Probably.

Lions? NO F**KING WAY! Any team that hasn't won 10 games in the last 3 years CANNOT be any town's fave. I think what you meant is REVERSE ORDER. Wings, Tigs, Pissed-ons, and Lie-ons. Find me a town where a team has won 3 championships in the last 7 years is not their fave.

I can't, by any stretch of the imagination, think of the Tigers more popular than the Pistons. Perhaps the fact that Detriot had a wining record at home this year made them more popular in Detroit.

The Lions and Tigers (both coming off abysmal seasons) still play in front of huge crowds. They're still very popular. Also, the Red Wings are one of the best teams in the NHL. If they hit a 5-10 year dry spell, would they be as popular in the community?

Then take a look at Montreal, where their hockey team (Who've been pretty cold since '96) are a bigger draw than their baseball team.

I'm not saying Detroit doesn't like hockey, I'm just saying there are places more fitting of the title, "Hockeytown".

I know Montreal beat Tampa Bay once during the regular season, and Tampa Bay beat Montreal once too. Basically, Montreal is a less-skilled version of Tampa Bay, with a better goaltender. It would be a pretty good series if both teams played.

they have way too much offensive talent. tanguay is on a hotstrak. forsburg looks like hes in there to stay. sakic has been clutch all season. and there are still the likes of konawalchuk, kariya, and selanne. and abeicheir is solid in net. oh, yeah, and they have one of the top three defensemen with blake, and foote is a great defensive defenseman.

they kicked dallas, can easily beat either the flames or the sharks, and will kill detroit.

I would just like to say I officially give up on Boston sports until football season. How the Bruins managed to blow a 3-1 game lead over the Habs is beyond me. And the Celtics don't stand an ice cube's chance in hell of beating the best team in basketball, and the Red Sox, as much as I love them, will eventually dissapoint me. So let's go Patriots! Giving Bostonians a reason not to boo our sports franchises out of town!

Wow, you really shut him down Friday. Only 3 assists. However, Koivu had 2 shots, Kovalev had 1 and Zednik had 3 or 4. You tell me who got shut down.

Might I also point out that the Avs are down 2-0 in their series.

Lightning will sweep the Habs, while Philly takes their series in 5. The Sharks will beat the Avs in 5 and Red Wings will pull it out over Calgary in 7. Then, Sharks beat Detroit in 6, Lightning beat Flyers in 6 and the Lightning win the Cup in 5 games.

Lightning will sweep the Habs...

Bang on with that one and I have to tip my hat to the Lightning for playing a good series. Khabibulin was stellar between the pipes, the defense did a great job of blocking point shots and I haven't seen an offence that oppurtunistic since the 80s Oilers.

I still think it'll be interesting to see how they'll play against Philly or Toronto, as the Lightning haven't played a physical team yet this playoff. Looks like the Flyers/Leafs series will be a long one, so Tampa will probably get either a very fatigued team in Philly or a very old and fatigues team in Toronto and you have to like their chances more and more.

The only weakness I saw in Tampa was they didn't have much skill on the backline besides Boyle and Kubina. What would you say to a deal sending Brisebois to TB and giving Montreal Artukhin and a 3rd Pick? I think that would be a deal that would be good for both teams.
