Tech Level Question

New person here. Been viewing a lot of storefronts and "news" items on this forum board for a bit. I noticed that some nations have been operating with so-said future tech and such. My question(s) is this:
What are the requirements for a nation to be possessing or producing a so-called tech level besides default "modern" tech? What other prerequisites would be needed to say that such a nation's tech is justified or approved legally without crossing the line of being a godmodder or other?

Hope some answers would help clarify this. Thanks for your time.

This is really the wrong forum for this kind of question. You want to take this to International Incidents or NationStates. Just make sure you start your post by mentioning that you're out of character. Most of us here in General wouldn't know roleplaying if it bit us in the ass.

This is really a matter of personal preference - there's nothing to stop you saying you're a future tech or fantasy nation. However, powering yourself up beyond pretty near-future can legitimately be regarded as godmodding, particularly if you don't have a very strong economy. If you just want to RP with a bunch of other sci-fi types, it shouldn't be a problem, but the basic assumption is that NS runs on roughly modern technology. Personally, I regard just about any fantasy or sci-fi claims as godmodding; I'd accept a nation being slightly future-tech if it had a Powerhouse economy, but that's about it.

Yes, but if we all played modern to modern+ it would be a far more shallow game, it's better if we just let people play it like they want. That way, those of us with no interest in M1A2's and super battleships can still enjoy themselves. I can't remember where I heard this, but I think it is convention to stay modern until you have a good economy, and 100 mil+ population. Might be wrong though. (Might be completely wrong)

You can roleplay what ever era you want.

Yeah, at least the way I understand it. In my 6 nations (estimate), most of them were (and are) modern, except for one I just started that's in the Napoleonic period.

Napoleonic? You must be one of the first. I had thought about that, but thought it would be pointless. Maybe I will start one now. By the way. I use redcoats, so get yer own colour. :P

I use traditional contempoary militaries for all my countries... except in Farflorin where everything is a mary jane tokin' long haired hippie.... *snicker* and there they don't have an army.

It's based on what you want.
