Let's say that the US begins an election today and the pro-Iranian theocracy people win the election. What is the US going to do to them? They aren't going to allow them to take power, in my opinion, and would probably claim corruption or that the people were forced to vote for them, or some other lies. What do you think?

In my opinion, it makes sense...our goal was to establish a democratic government there. Whether or not I agree with this is aside from the point, but if a theocracy is elected, what are the chances of a democratic government with a selected line of power?

I feel that a constitutional theocracy along Iranian lines would be good for Iraq. That is, it would be culturally appropriate and acceptable. Few people there honestly want a parliamentary democracy. Rule by local religious district councils is how things seem to naturally work there. Imposing a Western-style secular fascist state on them would be replacing Saddam Hussein with equivalent rule by committee.

You can't do that. If they win, they win. As much as I hate religion, you can't stop them from wanting the government they want, otherwise, it is not democracy. In Iran, you have free elections, although candidates must be approved by the hardline Guardian Council.

If they elected a theocracy and kill their democracy doing so i think we americans will probebly not interfere i mean we and our allies worked hard to get it for them if they throw it away i will just laugh as i watch the news and they are killing each other. I would hope they make a democarcy i mean if they did it could become quite a force. If i were some powerful arab leader in control of a country i would try and convince my nabors to make a "Confederacy of the Middle east" or something like that i mean if you look at the way american government works it coulod work any where. Besides theocracies always corupt in about 10 years or so.

The killing of diplomat Khalil Naimi, shot in the head by unknown gunmen while he drove near his embassy, cast a shadow over the unusual negotiating mission to Najaf by the envoy from neighbouring Iran,

The Sunnis and America don't want Iraq to turn into another Iran...

My guess is that they'd let them *rule*, but not become like Iran with no (true) elections. Kind of like if the Commies won, they wouldn't bar them from power, however if they turned Iraq into a communist dictatorship they'd simply force elections (since we'll likely station a lot of troops in Iraq).

You are assuming that there will be enough people left to vote?

but if we have an American style constitution they would just harang the people for the duration of their term and they be ousted with the next election with no perminant harm done to the country. besides bush said troops will help the Iraqis for their army and protect their boarders even after the goverment is handed over, what are they going to do with 75,000 marines stairing them down?

The same thing they're doing now: taking over cities with their militias and blowing-up the marines one at a time... this will prompt a war escalation -- and we'll have to ask ourselves, "why are we dying to rebuild a country that doesn't want us there?" -- so, while the bodybags of your friends and neighbors keep flying in from Iraq -- fighting against a people to give them "freedom" you can rest assured that the Administration in charge will make large stacks of money in the oil and arms trade that war brings...
