The War on Drugs

"George Bush says 'we are losing the war on drugs'. Well you know what that implies? There's a war going on, and people on drugs are winning it! Well what does that tell you about drugs? Some smart, creative motherf**kers on that side."- Bill Hicks

How true. I'm fed up of being made to feel like the scum of society. I'm a gay, drug using punk. Initial reactions are always negative. But what do I really do wrong? This holiday, I've been down to my local town and every night the same old thing happens- drunks smashing windows, fighting, causing havoc. Yet who are the police hunting? Me. What am I doing? Usually sat in my back yard, or up a hill watching the sunset, or lying on a friends lawn, smoking a joint. I haven't been in a fight since I was 14 (when I was attacked, I hasten to add, by drunk homophobes). I don't cause havoc. Yet I'm made out in the Daily Mail, and in general society, as scum. I don't understand why- I kiss boys. I go to gigs with people with silly haircuts. I smoke pot. I don't actually do any damage to anything but peoples small minded conservative sensabilities. Why don't the police chase the drunkards across the fields, don't alleyways and into their houses?

Because there's no challenge in it.

Weed shouldn't really be illegal, just make it regulated like cigarettes.

Alcohol. That really needs a crackdown. Being at college, I've seen so many people abuse the stuff and get into problems of various magnitudes. I can see having a drink or two once in a while with friends, but when it becomes people's lives - that's sad.

Actually, as a weed user, I don't want it legalised. If that happened, it would be taken over by multi-nationals who would commercialise it. It would become massively taxed, over-advertised, etc. Worst of all, it'd lose the home grown quality. At the moment, there is no monopoly, and so you get different tastes catered for. It'd be appaling if it became a coca-cola style monopoly, with other strains pushed out of the market. I want it to be decriminalised.

Eh, I think the whole system currently existing would still be effective. I wouldn't want to see weed sold like cigarettes either. I can't think of that many cons to keeping it homestyle, non-commerical.

Yeah. Let people grow a maximum of two plants, and they can sell the excess in cafes.

I thought that they WERE winning the war on drugs. They have 2 million people in jail already, half of which are there for drug possesion.

People will always find a way to get high. They may as well have a War on Masturbation and Sexual Activity.

all unconstitutional laws and nanny state facism have their roots in the nazistic war on "drugs" in america--which is really just a war against the underclass

But what do I really do wrong?
Breaking the law.

Regardless of whether you think the law is bad or not, breaking it is the reason people don't like it. Elect officials that want to change the law, or take it to court if you think its unconstitutional, but breaking it isn't the way to go.

(two women, one older, playing tennis)
Daughter: Mom, I was wondering...
Mom: Yes, sweetie?
Daughter: Do you ever get that not so fresh feeling?
Mom: Oh, all the time, sweetie.
Daughter: Well, what do you do about it?
Mom: Easy. I smoke copious amonts of pot, silly.
Voiceover: Hempies, you may stink, but no one's gonna care.
