Imperialism - Good, Bad - Dead or Alive?
Is Imperialism a good thing and did it die with the British Empire or does the Imperialist attitude live on in the USA and other global nations?

Oh look more arguments to say that the US is imperialist. You want imperialist examples look at Europe before WWI. That's imperialist. Now I say that it isn't dead because I myself and a big fan of imperialism. After all, without its existence, 1/2 the world wouldn't exist the way it does (and I mean that in a good way). Hell China wouldn't be as big of an economy, Japan wouldn't have given a reason to wipe them out and therefore blossom their economy (same as Germany). And of course, without imperialism, the founding fathers of this great country would have not have had the reasons they did to revolt against the British.
Some nations wouldn't even exist except for warring faction tribes had it not been for imperialism. Albeit, some nations seem to be worse off and the cause is often shot to European imperialism but the evidence is often weak in such cases to support that and even the contrary sometimes.
Ah imperialism...how I love thee...

All nations are striving for economic imperialism nowadays. It's the order of things. That's the extent of it. Unless you think the U.S. is going to physically occupy the Earth, which would be impossible for a good number of reasons.

Of course the US is imperialistic...somehow Americans on here think non Americans believe that is bad.
I love imperialist nations...Empire's are much more exciting.

If such happened logistically it is currently impossible. Then we'd be an Empire and probably fall victim the same things that happened to Rome, the HRE, etc. We'd have exceeded (far exceeded at that) our abilities. It's a nice idea though but only in a utopia can we occupy the whole Earth. Ahh dreams...

In the traditional sense I think calling the US imperialistic now-a-days warrants a much STRONGER definition and word for European imperialism of olden times. Semantics.

The U.S. *could* occupy the Earth, but given our numbers, skill and resources, we would have to decimate the Earth's population, probably by half. It's possible, but it isn't our creed or method, though some in the forum probably think otherwise.

Of course it is economic imperialism these days. The USA need not occupy the four corners of the earth militarily...thats what corporations are for...American industry rules the world...the IMF and World Bank protect American interests and when nations decide to get too ambitious, the all powerful US Carrier Fleets go in and extinguish flames of rebellion.
Like the British Empire, where Britannia ruled the waves, so too does the US seek to control the oceans of the world...hence trade routes are controlled and economic supremacy emerges.
However, the good thing about economic imperialism is that you do not become strained militarilly like Britain or Rome did. Now had Germany in the 1930's sought economic supremacy and domination of world trade and financial markets, Hitler could have ruled the world.
This is Economic Imperialism...and yes China no doubt wants a piece of the world.

I didn't just spend 180 billion dollars to invade one of the most oil rich countries in the world so I could pay $2 a gallon at the gas pump. Someone should get on that.

the Federalist Empire of America is the superficial goal of the PNAC...
they want Global Strife to fuel their Military/Industrial complex...
Right now they are preparing to divide up the world into three major sections -- Homeland Security/ America, NATO Europe, and East Asia; along with disputed territories in the Middle East and Africa (this is right out of "1984")

Except in 1984, I think there was a Eurasian mix that wouldn't be too likely nowadays. So who's gonna fight who, then? Sounds fun, but I just can't visualize it properly. :P

Well, sounds good to me...as long as Australia (aka deputy sheriff) gets to act as governor over the Asian colonies.

Just remember, the point of their perpetual war was to enslave their own peasents (that's you)
If Australia becomes the "deputy sheriff" then it must also turn into a Police-State: notice how you aren't allowed to own guns!

The Eurasian mix was mostly the USSR with West Germany and France thrown in...
