How long have you gone without sleep? I'm working on less than five hours in the last five days.

I've gone more than 75 straight hours without sleep but that was with tons of caffeine and during a 'Weekend of ZZT' [ZZT (http://zzt.the-underdogs.org/) is a GCS (Game Creation System)] competition making a game (on IRC the whole time too. (#DarkDigital on Ausnet - now dead...))

5 Days, but I had loads of Coffee and a little bit of amphetimines to help me. I frequently skip sleeping at night and can now do it with practically no side effects.

My best, Un-assisted was three days.

Assisted I have held somewhere between 7 and Nine days.

9 days? hmmm... you might wanna get that checked...

Serously though, the world record for sleep dep is 11 days, although psychosis and lack of motor and cognitive ability sets in after day 6.

After protracted lack of sleep the body has mini-hallucinations, or micro-sleeps when the brain takes mini-sleeps and the body experiences REM-

If attempting sleep deprivation with 'help', these hallucinations might not be distinguishable from the altered states already experien..zzzzzzz

I don't think I've gone for more than 48 hours without any sleep, but I have gone several days where I only sleep 0-3 hours or so a night.

About 50 hrs unassisted, twice in one week with only a total of 8 hrs sleep for the week. I was at uni and some bright spark thought it'd be a great fund-raising idea for our theatre society to perform the complete works of Shakespeare non-stop in the exam period. 39 plays, one section of an incomplete play, two epic poems, Christ knows how many sonnets and shorter poems. By the end of the week I was speaking in iambic pentameter, telling people to 'go to'. It would have been OK but for the fact that it was my final year and I had to finish my dissertation that week.

God, that was stupid.

I'm in a university, so, while I can't top the Shakespeare dude, I regularly get 3-5hrs a sleep, every night, for months on end.

God, I love caffiene.

I've been in college. I know sleep deprivation.

But you haven't experienced sleep deprivation until you experience newborn child sleep deprivation. My wife and I just had a baby boy last week. *yawn*

Caffeine does nothing for me. The longest I've been able to go to sleep is about 35 hours, and that's with frequent showering.

Sleep deprivation for any extended period of time (more than three days or so) for any reason is retarded. I can't understand why, short of extreme situations where one's physical survival necessitated it, anyone would do it.
