Anti-Americans

This little epidemic is REALLY starting to give me a headache. I see people fuss over American affairs wherever I go, be it in America or not. Most of these people, sadly enough, are confused over which "America" they should hate: The public, the press, or the government personel. Well... to clear that up a little... I AM HERE!!

Let us start with the public. Anti-Americans (that I have seen, mind you) are usually angry with the stereotypical american. By stereotypical, I mean extremely patriotic, loud-mouthed, snobbish, rude (Which could fall in the "snobbish" catagory if you want it to...), selfish, digusting people, who would gladly pull a gun on you if you do not sign an agreement or treaty saying you are on their side. No... most people are not like that. True, some ARE. That is very unfortunate, seeing as how those people are the ones who get most of the publicity. Yet, MOST of them are friendly, optimistic, caring, mellow people, who just want to live their lives WITHOUT anyone shooting their mouths off at them, being told how much they are hated. Maybe you should get to know some of those people before you insult them.

NOW! The press. Yes... you can be angry at the press. Pushy, loud, nosey people who won't leave you alone no matter what you do. I tell you what... these people are PAID to be that way. Once they are done, they are just like everyone else. Come to think of it, the press are the ones who release all of those stories on people like President Bush so you have yet ANOTHER reason to be angry. So think of them as an aid to your little Anti-America campaign.

Finally, we can get to the government. This is the moment you've been waiting for, is'nt it? Well... let me tell you now that most government officials are just like everyone else as well. They are doing their job. Please, don't get angry at anyone who is doing their job, in the way they are to be doing it. NOW, to the person you all hate the most (I assume...): PRESIDENT BUSH!! Yes! You heard that correctly. Mr. Bush is the the cause of all this. I do agree with the fact that he should not be the ruler of the free world. Choking on a pretzel!? What an idiot!... please... I have'nt done it. Come to think of it... I have'nt done ANYTHING stupid or arrogant in my life! Come on now... Mr. Bush may not have the comprehension to be president. But this is just ONE person. Please, I beg of you, DON'T CALL YOURSELF AN ANTI-AMERICAN IF YOU ONLY HATE ONE PERSON WHO JUST HAPPENS TO BE THE RULER OF AMERICA!!! Might I remind you that before we had this problem, we were one of the best in foreign aid? In fact, I think we still are! Heh... funny... some countries might have CEASED TO EXIST if we were not around! And the wars we fought! WOW! So much blood on our hands... give me a break. Like there are'nt other countries who have not gone to the same extremes as America has. Of course... you've probably forgotten all about that, now that America is the one causing all this trouble. You probably never will forget, even when (admit it, this is a possibility...) America is not in any war whatsoever, or meddeling in anyones affairs. Just keeping to themselves.

Well... I've done my part. Let the flaming begin.

If it makes you feel better I'm anti-nation. It's just that at the moment the USA is the biggest, richest and most powerful nation on Earth, and when there's no other power to police a nation like that things go wrong, people get killed, economies collapse and the environment gets neglected. All you have to do is look back in history and look at whichever Empire had the upper hand at any given time. At the moment it's the USA that fits the description, but in 50 years time it'll probably be Brazil, and then I'll have good reason to hate Brazil.

It's not about hating the people though. I find it very difficult to hate people.

No, I care, I see what you are saying. I am on the other side of 'anti-American' equatoin I suppose you'd say but I have one thing to start off with, the term 'anti-American' itself.

I think this is a very over used term, if I critise somethng about America I quite often get the term 'anti-American' thrown at me, which I think is not particullarly good. I critise my own country and my own governments policy all the time, but I don't get called 'anti-Australian'. I really have nothing against the population (most of them, anyway)

Critising America - If you (the American people) didn't tell us all how great America is all the time and how your type of democracy is the best, that your way is the best, etc. etc. etc. we wouldn't feel the need to critise it. (Note - this is a generalisation, so don't get offended, this is just the picture we get in other countries)

Perspective - The simple fact is we are told heaps about the US in the media but you in the US aren't told enough (from what I have heard, anyway) about the rest of the world. Most Americans when critising other countries make very simple arguements, such as "Taxes are bad, socalism is bad. France has high taxes, is socalist and disagreed with us so France is bad". I'm not saying all Americans are like this, but allot seem to lack perspective on what it is like to live in another country, maybe we don't think taxes are such a bad thing? This is prehaps the greatest cause for what you'd term 'anti-Americanism', this lack of perspective on behalf of some of your countrymen.

Government - No, your government has done some very bad things over the years so 'anti-Americanism' on this account is somewhat justified. Blowing up aspirin factories (Sudan), meddling in other countries internal affaris (Most of Latin America), overthrowing elected governments and supporting dictators (Latin America and the Middle East) dose this. If my country had a similar track record I'd be critical of that too, I would kind of expect some 'anti-Australianism'.

In closing, I am not 'anti-American', when I meet an American I don't automatically assume that he or she will be a gun totting flag waving moron. I like allot of American bands, such as Bad Religion, Black Flag, Pavement etc. and some of your movies aren't too bad. I just don't like allot of what the US dose in the world and the peculiar attutitude some Americans have, 'we are right because we are American'.

No offence

Come to think of it... I have'nt done ANYTHING stupid or arrogant in my life!
This may have been true until you started this thread. Anyone who thinks President George W. Bush is stupid, only shows their lack of knowledge about the man.

I AM AMERICAN!

I'm not particularly intelligent, open-minded, or generally well-liked.

I don't live in a clean place,
I don't eat nutritiously very often,
And I don't drive well.

I don't know Shakespeare, Da Vinci or Gutenberg,
Although I'm certain they weren't American.

I drink beer.....not good beer.
I don't use utensils when eating.
I believe in guns for settlling disputes, not discussions.

And I pronounce it AIN'T, not AREN'T.

I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack......until I go anywhere.

Burger King IS fine dining.
Cracker Jack IS a vegetable,
And WWF wrestling is real.

The UNITED STATES is the ONLY country in the world,
The FIRST nation of ignorance,
And the BEST part of South America !!

My name is Johnny Bob Jimmy Joe Ray!
AND I AM AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uhh, actually, I am not an American. In fact, I don't believe in nations, but if you must know, I live in Canada.

It was a spoof of a beer commercial we got here. Found it on the net. The beer commercial was "I am Canadian".
