I was curious how many of you like and/or play chess.
It is possible that you may know how to play and don't really like it that much; however the poll question is actually whether or not you like to play.

I like to play every once in a while. It's a way to pass time and you need to think stategically to win. I find it fun.

I do enjoy playing every now and then, only problem so far no one can actually beat me, which does get annoying sometimes because it's no challenge to play others.

I like to play, but I'm terrible at it. I can't think far enough ahead and have trouble controlling my opponent.

I used to play for a local team (and I managed to win more than I lost). I even had a grade for a few years.

I haven't been playing as much as I'd like to of late. The only people I can find to play against are online, and for some reason, I can't concentrate against a screen; I'm only any good over the board.

I once won a small championship but i haven't played much lately, why the question though? Are you really good?

Well, I have played it over the years and I thought there would be some people at this site who like the game since it is similar in some ways to what goes on here.
(Also I have created a region called 'chess')

Nobody gets good at chess if they don't like to play it. Unless you've become disillusioned with it or something.

I love chess. I suck (the only person I've ever beaten was a 5 year old, and last week a second grader checkmated me in about four moves), but I really like playing it anyway. Besides, I'm bound to get better if I keep playing, right?

I like chess and the best bit is you can play it for free online vs. other players, top notch! :D

I used to play it a lot with my dad. He called it "quality time"

I like chests...especially the bare female variety.

Try playing chess where the loser gets kicked in the groin. These will be some of the best games you ever played. :wink:

Anyone who can be checkmated in less than 10 moves probably isn't worth playing.

I play now and then I'm pretty good. Used to play with my grandfather and father. Not so much lately my grandfather passed away over 2 years ago or so and my father just does't play much. I play online a bit I enjoy it 8)

It’s hard to tell when playing people online. when I was actually in a chess club in middle school the move in question was used a few times before being banned.

The sequence of moves you are referring to is rightly named "fools mate".

Actually, you're incorrect. Fool's mate is a checkmate by Black in two moves. The mate in four moves could technically be a variation of fool's mate, prolonged by two moves, but the most common four move mate is called "Scholar's mate".

I thought that was more of a "I'm gonna hide from the CIA" routine these days.

Chess is cool :D But I am not very good at thinking far enough ahead to be really good.
