So it occured to me this morning that I haven't been to confession in two years. Which is astonishing considering as a Catholic I am required to go almost monthly, or at the least four times a year. So I thought, why is it I haven't gone? It is because in the back of mind I keep thinking, what if my Priest is a paedophile. Now please don't laugh because this is serious. I talked to a number of my other Catholic friends who haven't goen to confession for the same reasons. Now considering if we died and had not gone to confession we could go to Hell is concerning. Those Preists who violate their vowes of Celibacy and ruined the live of the victems and their familes have done something else. They have risked the imortal souls of millions of Catholics. If we cannot feel comfortable enough to go to confession we risk Hell, all because of thses perverts.

Why not just pray and confess to God yourself? (Protestant view)

IMO, The R.C Church will never considered holy after the priest incidents. Among my non-religious friends, the word 'Catholic' is now synonymous with 'gay', 'pedo', etc.

Among my non-religious friends, the word 'Catholic' is now synonymous with 'gay', 'pedo', etc.Because to gain absolution you must confess to a Preist. In the case of a Mortal Sin you then receive Indulgence, which does not release you from punishment. (Kind of hard to explain)

Its pretty sad when you are afraid of someone who is supposed to be a representative of your faith.

But... considering how many catholic priests there must be in the world, the ones you hear about are a terribly small minority. I'm not condoning what they did, but you can't paint an entire religion because of the acts of a few. Its illogical.

I'm Catholic, but with liberal tendencies, I guess. The church I attend is a good place, with a good people and community. The priests are equally nice. Admittedly, I don't go to confession often, but when I do, I have had no troubles so far.

Unfortunately, that won't make news headlines because its just not scandalous enough. :?

Maybe the problem with the priesthood is because of the confession booth. With all of the dirty little details that people give the priests one has to figure that maybe that’s going to give them some dirty little ideas too. So confess your sins, but please think of the children and leave all the dirty details out.
