I just got bored, and decided to post this. I figure that there are so many other thing that could happen, other than the world being extinguished of all lifeforms. What do you think?

I was fearing that'd come up. Ok, let's make this fun to debate: both the US and USSR had nuclear power and every convinience of the Cold War except nukes.

We would fight each other over Europe, then if the Russians got to the border of France, France would begin to use nuclear weapons to tactically destroy soviet divisions. If the Americans started to win and got somewhere near the pryapit marshlands then Russia would most likely use their tactical nuclear warheads or possibly unleash their strategic weapons. The Russians would get their butts kicked in the Pacific theater, North Korea would invade the South, and China would use the war as cover for further expansion.

The Soviet Union was the master of 'throw everything you have at them at once' warfare. Hell, it beat Hitler. It could've beaten Reagan or Bush or Kennedy.

The Soviets had more nukes, but we had more tactical nukes. Yah, it'd be all-out destruction, but we'd look cooler doing it. :wink: With Atomic Annie and the Davy Crockett HMMVW-Mounted nuke-launcher and all those other nifty things, it'd be hilarious. 8)

Pretty good. It's interesting to me because of one revelation that I found out. Without nukes, the only way one of the powers could strike the other was through their navy. The US gained the upper hand early on with its large fleet of sophisticated aircraft carriers, which the Russians didn't really build (I think they might've had one at the end of the Cold War, though). Each aircraft carrier has more firepower than most nations. The best defense against them was a large fleet of submarines. I'm pretty sure that they could use them to destroy US ships, including aircraft carriers, throughout the Atlantic and Pacific, and may be able to land troops in the Americas. Or, the US could use the carriers early on, and seriously wound Russia's warfighting abilities. Either way, however, the submarines would get them.

All people could just fall over, die, and nobody would ever know!

Well if the Cold war actually got 'hot' then there would be a whole slew of things that would occur. first of all tensions between the United States and the Russian Federation would grow to a point where one (probably Russia) would try to invade places like Germany, Turkey and England, where the United States hold some very dangerous firststrike locations against the Russian Federation. Also they would try to refrain from using their full array of tanks as they have a good deal more than NATO has. The only way to stop Russia if they used their tanks would be to use tactical nuclear missiles. Tensions between the Arab Nations and Israel would also flare up as the Arabs get their support from Russia and Israel from us. I would imagine the first nation to use nuclear weapons in this new 'hot' war would be israel against her neighbors. Other conflicts would also spring up just because they can now that the United States would be preoccupied with dealing with the Russian Federation. Conflicts like Pakistan/India, North/South Korea, China/Taiwan. From there once nukes were used by some nation, that would be the flash point for a nuclear holocaust.

If the Cold war got "hot"...we'd just play a BIG game of hot potatoe!
