Palan

anything and everything really; jazz, 70's classics, rock, spanish style, soul, easy listening...........
not a huge fan of classical though I'm not saying I don't like any of it
how about you?

70's funk, Mr Bungle, classical - canon. What is your favorite film?
Palan
11-04-2004, 01:54
man that's a tough one, to be honest I haven't seen that many films, though I'd be very tempted to say Shrek - yeah I know, I'm a big kid!

Mine's 'Fear and loathing in Las Vegas' - next - favorite book?
Palan
11-04-2004, 01:59
Engram by Keith Baker - it's a thriller about a girl in a car crash who loses her memory and is struggling to regain it and figure out what happened

also Enid Blyton's The Magic Faraway Tree - loved it as a kid and it still hasn't lost that special charm
11-04-2004, 02:04
I think my favorite is 'Hell's Angels' by Hunt0r S Thompson. Describe yourself.
11-04-2004, 02:04

Palan
11-04-2004, 14:44

a RIB is a Rigid Inflatable Boat, the kind the Lifeboat use
11-04-2004, 14:48

Palan
11-04-2004, 15:05
Ur6 - yep, teaching 11-18 year olds

Gary Jules - no, I'm afraid that isn't one of my particular talents!
11-04-2004, 15:06
You must be a saint to want to teach them at that age...

A fake fish? Why? How real looking..?
Palan
11-04-2004, 15:08
lol, I think it's the challenge that I'm most looking forward to, I know there are going to be far more real wasters than decent kids, but I've done a bit of tutoring and just seeing the look on someone's face when something finally clicks - it's awesome
11-04-2004, 15:10
I've done some teaching as well, but mostly adults or close to it, and you are right. It has its rewards.
11-04-2004, 15:14
A fake fish? Why? How real looking..?
Real enough looking to fool a real one.
Palan
11-04-2004, 15:15
excellent, what were you teaching?
11-04-2004, 15:22
welding, statics, strength of materials

I can't see a dolled up goldfish doing it, besides it will be killed,

try a mirror?
11-04-2004, 15:25
A mirror had an effect - the fake fish is the next stage. Got a fish keyring and a blue rosette. We're cookin' wi gas now.

I've done some teaching as well, but mostly adults or close to it, and you are right. It has its rewards.

I teach adults too, Six. They know why they're in school, and are glad the instructor wants to help them master their skills. There's little game-playing on either side, "what's he after?" "what are they up to?"...

I respect my students very much because their choice is a demanding one; most have jobs, families...and now, 30 to 40 extra hours of mindwork each week.
11-04-2004, 22:25
Good stuff Coll. I'm sure the students respect you as well :D
