Toronto!

If you think differently, tell it!

the avalanche, if they can stay healthy, they have amazing offense and decent defence and goaltending. plus forsberg is the best player in the game

Interesting on how the two teams you pulled from the East both lost their first games....

what about tampa bay, they could make a pretty good run too

Some might say that Ottawa was due in the Battle of Ontario too!

Actually, Boston looked VERY sharp last night. I have a hard time picking an intrinsically better team this year between Ottawa, Toronto, Boston, Philly, and NJ. It's just too damn tight this year.

Out of the West, I like Detroit and Vancouver.

I doubt it. Their points are inflated by the division the play in. Khabi is a great goalie who might win them a few, but I don't see them getting out of round two. they don't have enough lines to roll at the better teams.

I quite agree I picked both Vancouver and Detriot in my pool.

Toronto has had quite a drought in cups since way back..

I hope not, but feel free to gloat if you are proven right :(

Toronto is too old and will break down like they always do
Tucker will pull a cheap shot like he always does, Quinn will find a way to whine about tucker's cheap shot, like he always does

My sleeper pick is Calgary, my main pick is Tampa. I would have picked detroit but legace (an extremely underated goalie in my view) just banged his head and may not play. Tampa has 2 really good goalies and one of the top offenses in the league. Great coach to

its amazing how much the NHL is like the NBA. Same number of regular season games, the all-star break is about the same time, and who ever wins the West will win the league championship.

no team from the east can hold a candle to any of the top 4 teams from the west.

i hope the Avs win it though.

REeally?

On what do you base that?

Did a quick scan of the head-to-heads between Colorado, San Joese, and Detroit against Ottawa, Toronto, Boston. New Jersey, and Philly.

Now, I might have missed a game or two, but I counted the West's record at:
4 Wins, 4 ties, and 10 losses.

And in case you haven't noticed, the North-East is bar none the toughest division in hockey. Three teams over 100 points, 4 over 90. Any of the top three teams, if moved to the Southeast would have walked out with 120 points.

The West used to have some league dominance, but that is no longer the case.

Tampa has 2 really good goalies

The Bruins also have 2 very good goalies with Potvin being a number one guy on about 10 teams in the league.

I think the East is a rough one to call, but I gotta figure on one of the teams from the NE, or the Devils. The West is most likely Detriot (again) or Colorado (again). It'll be rough for Vancouver without Bertuzzi.

Anyway, I'm rooting for Boston.

Ha! Do you even watch hockey? The 1-6 seeds in the East all could win the Cup. Who's going to win it from the west? Detroit, Dallas, or Colorado. San Jose will crash and burn like they're supposed to, and no one else from the West can beat those big three. On the other hand, Tampa Bay, Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto, Ottawa, and New Jersey all have real hope of winning the Cup. I don't do guarantees, but I can virtually assure you that the Stanley Cup Champions will come from the East this year.

Toronto has just captured it's first Stanley Cup since the drought started way back in 1967. It was an exciting game that went into OT, with Ron Francis scoring the Cup winning goal, sliding a nifty backhand shot between the legs of a clearly dejected Curtis Joseph.

Toronto takes the Cup, after a gruelling 7 game series with the Detroit Red Wings. On hand for the game, were some of the alumni from the last Toronto Leaf team to win the Cup, namely "Clear the Track" Shack, the "Big M" Frank Mahovolich, George "Chief" Armstrong, Johnny Bower, and a surprise appearance by none other than Davey Keon.

Way to Go Leafs

Good luck Canuck. But I don't think the Leafs are going to get past Ottawa.

And except for the Devils, when is the last time any team from the East won the SC? Toronto is the Chicago Cubs of the NHL, Tampa Bay plays in a shitty division, Boston will choke like the Red Sox, Philly will bow out after the 1st or 2nd round, and Ottawa is Canadian (so, no chance).

The Avs, Wings, Cannucks, or Stars will have no trouble beating whoever is from the East, except maybe NJ.

as well as the habs in 93, the penguins did it twice in the 90's as well. New Jersey has won a whole bunch of cups

just like how the power of the NBA was switched from the East to the West in the past 10 years, the NHL has done the same.

Your argument makes no sense. Ottawa is a Canadian team so they have no chance, but Vancouver does? Also, the only team they have to fear is the 6 seed? Tampa has a great young team, but they did play in a weak division. Boston finally has a legitimate second scoring line and solid goaltending. Philadelphia is one of the most physical teams in the league. Ottawa has experience. New Jersey has Brodeur. The 2-6 seeds have the best chance.

Yes, but all things come around. The NFC dominated the Super Bowl for 13 years, but recently it's been the AFC who's controlled it. In the NBA, the East ruled for several years, but it's been the West recently. It's time for the power to shift to the East in the NHL. The West is getting too old.

Heh....this debate is pointless.

Detroit will win.

Whose the most winningest team of this century, and the end of the last?

Detroit.

Who has more seasoned talent than any other team?

Detroit.

Toronto?

Phffft,

Ottowa?

HAH.

The Av's?

As if.

The cup..is coming back home to Hockeytown.

No, you said other than the Devils. Ignoring the fact that the Avalanche are really the old Quebec Nordiques of the Northeast Division, when's the last time a team from the west other than the Red Wings, Avalanche, or the Stars won a Cup? ('90 Oilers, I'll answer that one for you) Four teams have won the Cup in the past 9 years, and that's only because the Stars finally lived up to their hype and won in '99.

The Avs aren't going to win the Cup; that's assumed. They were 2-5-1-2 in 10 games going into the playoffs (that's two wins, seven losses and one tie), and Kariya is supposed to be done for the playoffs. The Canucks don't stand a chance because their second best player, Bertuzzi, got himself suspended indefinately. San Jose's never been able to accomplish anything in the playoffs, and this year won't be any different. That leaves the Wings and the Stars. Obviously, I don't need to tell anyone who's coming out of the West.

the avs havent had kariya for much of the season, so thats no big loss. they are incredibly deep, and any one of a half dozen players can get on a hot streak and win it for their team. look at tanguay, the man is a beast. but really, anybody can beat anybody in the playoffs, look at what happened in the west last year. id like it to be the leafs, but my money is on the avs or tampa.
