The thread for people who haven't seen the Passion!

So why haven't you guys seen the passion (yet)?
I'm not, simply because:
a) it's too catholic-spun
b) my religion discourages viewing r-rated movies, even this one
c) it's a frikkin snuff film! I don't need to see my elder brother dragged through the streets and mutilated with utter lack of historical accuracy for 2 hours
So why haven't YOU seen it?
Cause it isn't being screened here yet, I'm on an island with two cinema screens and there are other films they want to show first apparently
still undecided about whether or not I'll go
Oh, also, the controversy seems to be getting it huge sales. If it really isn't as bad as they say, then its probably not worth seeing as a film, and if it is as bad as they say, I don't want to put money into the pocket of some loony christian fanatic.

I have no intention to see the movie. I'm simply not interested in it.

No point. I already know how it's gonna end.
1. I've already read the book, and the book was bad, so how'd the movie be?
2. Braveheart, Yeshua ben Yosef style.
3. Raysia should not be complaining about historical accuracy.

both a and c make valid objections, my parents took me to see a passion play as a child, i don't remember all the endless blood and filth or the annoying aramaic(sp?). i don't think the last 12 hours of jesus mortal life are the most important aspect of his ministry. the passion play i saw as a child was clearly a production for christians to view at easter and understood in the larger context of their faith, i fear gibson's movie may not be seen in that framework.
I already heard how it was gonna end.

The endless blood and filth and aramaic is much more realistic. ;)

We (mormons) like to remember the life and ministry of Jesus Christ more than hsi death. On Easter, instead of remembering his brutal martyrdom and crucifixion, we celebrate his attonement and resurrection.
You will never find a cross or crucifix in a Mormon church unless it's in the library as a visual aid for a lesson on the crucifixion.

but the passion of christ is better understood symbolicly without the screaming horror and faintly homoerotic sadism. christs suffering is important, but it shouldn't be thrown in peoples faces in all its car accident graphicness without the risk of distorting the fundimental message of christ.
No, I went to see Hellboy instead. Oh the irony...

It's also very much in the spirit of the Bible. I told you; I read it.

though i don't agree with all aspects of your faith, i think you take the right approach to this issue. in fact i think most christian churches usually do, i fear this movie has temporarially shifted some christians into an unhealthy view of their faith. it isn't the quantity of his suffering(many cancer victum suffer far more in their linger deaths) it is the reason for his suffering which is important.

I haven't seen it because it doesn't interest me.

Two reasons for me. The first is much as others have said here--I'm not that interested in seeing the movie. I think the focus on Jesus' agony is misplaced. Theologically speaking, how Christ suffered is less important than his message of love and peace and the idea that he was the Redeemer of mankind. This places the emphasis on the pain and suffering and not on the real message.
But secondly, I didn't go because I won't knowingly support an anti-Semite with my money. I'm not saying that the movie is anti-Semitic--I've not seen it and cannot rightly make that judgment--but Gibson's father most certainly is anti-Semitic and Gibson himself has done nothing to distance himself from those comments. And I refuse to knowingly spend my money in support of people with that ideology, just as I would refuse to support people with any sort of racist or anti-ethnic ideology.

Because I don't need to see a movie to know the historical fact that Jews killed Jesus.

A, B, and C. I find it funny that people put their reason for not viewing the film to be because they already know how its going to end... haha. You guys crack me up, its like saying: "Yea, I don't want to go see the movie Pearl Harbor because I already know that the US wins WWII."

a true "snuff" flim is usually consisting of a brutal rap....and a murder...all of camera.
They usually arent real..and the ones that are..are obviously highly illegal.
Check out the film "8mm" with Nicholas Cage for more information.

Simple matter of logistics for me. It's very hard around this area to find a good babysitter for a 20-month old (and I refuse to take him to the movies where he can distract everyone), and the Mrs and moi want to go see it together. So, we'll probably do our M.O. since he was born, and wait for the release on DVD...that's how we got to see Matrix II, and the LOTR movies.
Have you guys heard why Mel made the movie?
He said that when he was going through hardships, it helped him to know that Jesus suffered much, much more and that was his inspiration.
He's just trying to portray that message.
Granted, Cancer victims do suffer quite a bit more, bu Jesus did have the sins of the World on him.
