Red or white wine?
I startrd this thought in another thread and thought there might be some people intrested so here is my opinion.
I like a smooth Merlot with my meals or around the fire on a cold winter's night. But for quiet conversations with friends I prefer a Shiraz Cabernat. I love the texture of reds, the way it rolls over you tongue, the rich aroma that hints at the taste inside, heck I even like the rose tint it leaves on my tongue.
Though not that whites are without their merit, the are delightful on spring outdoor lunches or with just the right salad. But reds have my heart won over.

I only drink fresh wine. (non-alcoholic :P [grape juice!])
bubba I think you on your own on this one. I'm going to assume that most folks here tend to be beer drinkers, or go for the harder stuff. I would be surprised to find an appreciation for wine around here.

I'm with you on this. I used to be a white and pink wine person before I really started to drink it. Now I'm a solid merlot, shiraz, syrah kind of person. I'll drink a cabernet before a chardonnay and I'll drink any of them before I drink champagne or a sparkling white. I've just never developed a taste for that.

Not for me. I'll take a less heavy red, perhaps one a bit more fruity than dry, but I'm largely a red man all the way now.

As a Catholic we can drink because Jesus did, but we cannot do drugs or what-not because of the whole "Your body is a temple" thing. And as for coffee, well we're celebit 'til marriage so we deserve a little slack.

Nowadays, water is pure. And plus, it never said Jesus' wine was fermented. He commanded the mormons to drink only fresh from the vine.
as for coffee... it has addictive ammounts of Caffeine in it. And addiction is a sin. Addiction breaks the first commandment, because you tend to put your worldly addictions above God in your life. And in basic, addictions carry over with you into hell :)

As for addiction, the modern Church believes that temptation is a sin and not addiction. For instance if a person were to go to hospital and have surgery after which becoming kooked on pain killers they have commited no sin. But if a person is tempted to take pain killers for an immoral purpose they have commited a sin. Say the addicted person not seeking help and continuing to use.

They looked at the restrictions on birth control as well, a bit silly, and as belonging to a different age. And besides, they could always confess, say however many "Hail Marys" and get on with it.

Correction: if you do your research and very little at that I might add, you will see that most scholars have determined that the wine of biblical times was mostly fermented. However, in some cases (time ofcourse permitting) there was actually something called JUICE!!!!!

A good merlot on a winters night, definately one of life joys. I prefer dry wines, never really liked fruity and/or sweet wines. If I drink white, it has to be dry. I definately prefer red if I'm just havng a drink but with food it has to be well matched.

Mormon guy - check out the thread on Mormons baptising dead people. How do you justify that?

I like a Merlot as well, plus any of the more peppery whites.
